Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Most racists company

Inclusion and diversify is a joke. New ranking system weeds out minorities and puts white frat guys in charge. I am done.

Our society has become so polarized that everything is now seen through a lens of racism. The real problem of racism in this country is racism against white people. I know this comment is not popular and will draw out vitriolic responses from some. But how can someone claim to be against racism with one breath, and in the next breath they stereotype white people as racist. These hypocrites claim white people are inherently racist.

Martin Luther King said we should not judge people by the color of their skin. This is just as true today as it was when he said it. But that is exactly what so many of our politicians and opinion leaders are doing in this country, and they are tearing us apart to enhance their power.

Racism should be condemned because it is evil. It doesn't matter what skin color the offender has or the victim has.

Quit acting like racism is unique to white people. Everything posted on this topic from non whites sounds pretty racist to me.

If you truly believe racism doesn’t exist in this company then you are absolutely blind. I and many of my colleagues are by far more qualified and talented than our supervisors and section heads. With that being said we are still more likely to be PIP’d rather then offered a leadership position. Not only that, I witness the most vile racist, sexist, and homophobic rhetoric being carelessly thrown around without fear EVERY SINGLE DAY. Just because you do not experience some of the issues minorities deal with doesn’t no mean they do not exist. I can’t believe we still have to have this conversation in 2021.

Let’s cut to the chase here: if somebody says that the company and/or it’s employees are racist, they are automatically correct, because as CRT tells us, all white people are inherently racist by their nature, it’s their original sin and whatever they do they will be defined by it.
Along the same lines, if white males complain they’re the ones being discriminated against, they only provide evidence of their racism.
Forget reality, forget that more than 50% of those promoted to managerial positions are women, forget that each and every African-American you see on campus is promoted into management. Just keep your head down and shut up. “The remedy against future discrimination is discrimination” - from the teachings of the great Xendi.

I see that even more aggrieved white men showed up explain to everyone else how they’re totally not racists and how there’s no such thing as racism, sexism, or homophobia. As before, It’s all a big misunderstanding; they’re just being “objective” when they treat every living thing that isn’t white, male, and heteros-xual like garbage, and (of course), white heteros-xual men are the “real” victims of racism and discrimination, not the countless women and minorities whom they habitually discriminate against.

Like I said before: grieve the minor loss of your privilege elsewhere.

I’ve had some very promising hard working younger folks that I worked with but once they get into these race click erg’s where they learn how to beat the system then they quit trying and act aggressive and entitled. It’s like their whole demeanor changes and it’s quite sad actually. I try to help them as much as I can but there’s only a much you can do once a person quits trying and begins acting out to their own detriment.

You nailed it. Annandale in New Jersey (e.g. look at CSR - Corporate Strategic Research) is full of minorities working as VP, manager, section head and research positions. Each and every one of them are superbly incompetent, scared to voice any original opinion, have zero new thoughts and visions and back stabbers of the highest grades

Yes EM is racist, look at all the racist and sexist groups that EM supports and encourages, BEST, ACE, WIN, PRIDE, just to name a few. Try to start a WEST group and see if you are fired or NSI. In the ranking process, HR has to “approve” the people who are NSI or NI. If HR determines that there are too many bl---s oe women in that bucket, they take some out and add white males - racist, yes! I know this because I am a SLS and saw it happen. Look around, how many black engineers, supervisors, and management do we have and how many of them are competent? How many times have you seen where several people have to do the job that one person is supposed to do where that person is black? EM is racist, racist against white people.

The most blatantly discriminate affiliate within ExxonMobil is Imperial, Canada. All forms of discrimination are practised with impunity. A few pliant Asians are promoted to "harmless" managerial positions while other people of color, especially the male gender are ignored. Education, experience, problem solving skill sets and other dimensions are not considered in matters of development and growth.
There are very few visible minorities in supervisory or managerial category, they die while in the the que, thanks to a certain type who demonize and ki-l the competition through backstabbing skills acquired from their appounted mentors.

Pointing out that management is white males that were in frats is not racist. It is stating a fact. I see no racism in ops original post.

We have lots of minorities in management positions in Annandale, they have ruined this site. None of them can have an original thought or guts to push back on upper management, thus place is a dumpster fire. Darrin will make it clear next week.

As an engineer that has worked under an Asian woman in the gulf coast, I can honestly say I have never seen a more biased prejudiced, poor excuse for a manger or human ever in my career within Exxonmobil or outside. So in this instance yes. The system is biased toward Her because she is both incompetent and ruthless. Continuously misrepresenting truth and sneaking into meetings that she has no business in. Claiming she’s responsible, stealing others work. Undermining other sls as well as engineers that report to her. Either management is either plum ignorant, they don’t care or they are scared to work the problem for fear of the broken wing card.

I think that I would agree with @jey+1d7u7fg0.
EM was a racist company, the same way that all corporations were. Females had a difficult time even as late as the first few years post merger. But my current experience is not the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if our overwhelmingly Republicans / Trumpists executives were down deep inside racists but at least in promotions and all, this is not what I see. Up to VP, plant manager level we see many females, maybe even higher fraction than what we see at lower levels . We have two female presidents too. Up to division manager / tech manager level we see many African Americans.
I know for a fact that our minority/female hiring in certain areas are well above 50%.
And don’t forget, if you subtract the British executives, the white, male population at that level is quite smaller.
On the other hand, we have very few persons of East Asian origin (particularly males) in senior manager positions.

@OP The entire O&G industry has a racism problem. You can throw sexism and homophobia in there too. I left O&G for aerospace, and while there’s still racism, it doesn’t come close to what I saw while I was working in O&G.

@iaz Unfortunately you’re probably right. I’ve seen white guys yell and throw things, spew racial/g-y slurs, etc., and nothing was ever done about it. More than a few were promoted. If anyone who wasn’t white and male did the same thing their employment would have been terminated immediately. There’s always a double standard at play.

Sadly I hate to admit this is true. As a beneficiary of white privilege I apologize for the transgressions of my people. Which I could do more.
