Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many unused vacation days do you get paid when leaving the company?

If you leave in January, do you get paid for the vacation days in a whole year?

OP here.
I suspect that you can get all your vacation days of the year paid for even if you quit in January. Otherwise, you can just simply use all your vacation days right before leaving the company. This way, you get your regular salary without working anyway (or you can start working a new job during the same time), which is equivalent to getting paid for unused vacation days. So technically, you can always turn your unused vacation days to money.
Is that right, or am I missing anything?

it’s different rules depending on the country because the people who were retrenched or took PIL in the countries that I knew had pro-rated vacation days. Not everywhere is like the US where folks get much, much better benefits than anywhere else

Not prorated! January 1st you have already earned a whole years worth of vacation, plus any carryover you had.

of course not! it's pro-rated.

what I heard is, if you have 24 days vacation you are entitled to 2 days encash if you resign on or after 16 January, 4 days if you resign after 16 Feb, 6 days if you resign after 16 Mar.

always resign after the 15 of the month. if you resign before the 15th, eg. 1st to 14th, you lose out on the pro-rated vacation days of that month.

that's what I was advised since 15 years ago

This is why PIP / PIL results in leaving no later than DEC 1
