Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

PIPs, layoffs, and hiring

All at the same time. How does that make any sense?

EM motto is “Do less with more”. More layers of management.

Having so many layers of management leads to significantly more PowerPoints and weekly reports, monthly reports, quarterly reports, studies, trending, market studies(except not looking at how many layers of management the top quintile industry competitors have).

These extra managers create work for themselves and others to justify their existence.

I heard there would be a management layoff by year end, but suspect it will not cut enough of them.

Do more with less. We are ExxonMobil.

PIP and layoff are not the same. PIP can lead to being laid off, but it doesn’t always. In fact, of people who don’t quit, most do end up making it through PIP without being laid off. If your performance improves and you start making a meaningful impact, and a lot of people in that business area start doing this, then your PIP will go down as that business area turns around. But if your business area continues to suck and you don’t improve during the PIP, then yes you’ll be let go. That’s how it is at every company in the history of the world.

You say we’re doing PIPs in order to reduce personnel where that is needed, and then you say we’re not doing layoffs. Maybe this is too much for you to process, but personnel reductions where people are not needed, that’s what’s called a layoff - except at EM, where layoffs are disguised. Yore choking on your Kool Aid.

We are doing PIPs in areas we don’t see business growth in and where we have far to trim (still plenty left). We’re not doing layoffs. We are hiring in areas where we see growth and where we have had “regretted” attrition, which is why you in particular see a preference for experienced hires. Because we lost architects and need to replace them now, not with new hires who can fill the role in 10 years.

They have gotten rid of higher paid employees, regardless of their value or skill sets. It appears only the pay has been looked at. That’s the broken ranking system and pds ExxonMobil uses.

I would never come here as a new employee; prospective employees should RUN!!!

One recent job posting even says that they are looking to hire people with ExxonMobil experience. In another thread people were calling BS on the idea of bringing back people who were let go, but it seems to be happening.

You presume that all employees being let go are all good performers. A company should cull those that do not bring value. It’s necessary if you’re going to remain competitive.

People are our most important asset.
So, makes total sense to get rid of them first.

What other incoherence do you expect?
