I work for a competitor and here is how we solved our vaccination issue. Now, before you tear this post apart, let me give a disclaimer as I truly do not have a horse in this race. I am perfectly fine working next to people who have not been vaccinated while I strongly encourage everyone to vaccinate for a number of things that I interpret as scientific reasons and medical recommendations.
Anyhow, based on guidance we got from the consulting group helping us manage the vaccination program, going into this we knew that we should expect between the vaccination rate to be around 96% to 98% given our employee profile, level of education, geography, etc. I turned out to be a bit under 3%. We noticed that lower paid cohorts had lower rate of vaccination so our first program included providing shots on Fridays and offering $400 to each individual who got vaccinated on that Friday. This barely moved the needle as only couple dozen people would come and get vaccinated.
At some point we realized that we are spending about $10K every Friday and we turned things around a bit. We stopped offering the $400 payment, instead we offered a $20K to one lucky person who got vaccinated on that Friday. As you can imagine, two dozens turned into hundreds and we will hit our desired 99.8% rate in two weeks.
This still leaves us with that 0.2% to deal with, we have some options there but I think that the executive group is willing to deal with the fallout if they are all let go. This number will still be over 100, so it’s really sad to see those folks go but at some point you need to resolve this, find a compromise (or break things) and move on.
