Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

FYI - Big layoffs today at Verizon Wireless

Looks like 3 weeks per year, 60 days to find new job.

Survey on VZ layoff board - average age 52 with 18 years of service, 2/3 of those let go are over 50.

Even wireless is getting dinged although it looks like they are getting a better deal than JS will provide during Q1 2022 for T employees.

The recent layoff at Vz was the standard 2 weeks per year of service (not 3 like the VSP two years ago) capped at 35 weeks. 60 day notice period.

I left T in August 2021, best decision ever. Grass is greener, much greener. Take the leap, so many career jobs out there. There is no perfect place, but there is BETTER.

Just wait until Q1 2022 - that's when the HC subsidy goes away.

JS even said two years ago when there was a very significant force reduction that force reduction would be minimal for several years before it increased again - he didn't mention eliminating pre and post Medicare subsidies during that time but that is why they have held back until now. Just getting rid of benefits that they can and minimizing age discrimination risk before significant layoffs.

Remember - that genius, RS, once said we only need 100,000 to run this thing - AT&T is a long way from that number. It is true some hiring in network to buildout infrastructure after years of neglect but everything else will be targeted.

Wrong, layoffs will continue at T. This is part and parcel to Santones new strategy. Hire in as many as possible, kick everyone else to the curb with over 5 Years of service. Saves the company tons of money.

I know it's all negative all the time here, but I don't see big layoffs in the near future. There's more hiring going on right now since I can remember, and they just announced referral bonuses. It's been many years since we've seen any of this.

I’m over at VZ, used to be at T, got Riffed. It sucks as its in sales, and a ton of us were impacted. Not sure why they are cutting in an area they want to grow but since i am not an executive i am not privy to what they are privy to, so second time in 18 months i am job hunting, kinda worried as I am almost 60. Oh well we will see.

The Stink will never increase severance. The Stink will only reduce severance. The lawyers prevent the Stink from taking away all severance, as without severance, they would never get anyone to sign away their right to sue for all the age discrimination that T openly practices.

The Stink is in the mode of firing people, or rebadging them for free, with no severance! Why pay anything when he can just use the WOKE tools provided him by the Communists-in-Charge?

2 weeks per year up to 36 weeks max. Minimum 4 weeks pay for those with 2 years or less. Not a bad deal if you can get it. Will Stankey step up his game?
