Is IBM currently mandating training be done before end of year? On Linkedind, I'm seeing several (not so humble) IBMers , bragging about getting certified in W. The next day, same person bragging about X, then Y the next day, etc. Some individuals have posted 5 or 6 certifications one day after next - obviously not doing much of anything else. Is this an effort to stay off the layoff list, "appear" relevant, an IBM requirement, or an expression of pure joy for working at IBM and getting educated? And the training seems to be so IBM centric its likely of little value outside the company!

there are so many mediocre people here is because they are coasting.
This is so true and witnessed in many cases.
Part of the reason there are so many mediocre people here is because they are coasting. Training is a way to uplevel the few good eggs and put pressure on the rest.
40 hours a year of training is NOTHING and the bare minimum. Track any industry webinar you attend.
The training is garbage. Next Next Next. Most IBMers let it run in the background with the volume down. It is all about compliance and putting you on a list. The majority of training is not professional it is just a bunch of executives practicing their pitch decks on video with a multiple guess test at the end. It is always high level marketing cr-p with no technical depth. Anyone at IBM can create a training module and sadly they do.
@1gfp+1dCESxLT, my take is that HR involvement came in later. Those badges or trainings appeared to have been originally coming from different businesses and historically not often mandated. But my suspecion is that in more recent time, they started using your education hours to some sort of metrics. Hope they will enforce these trainings and leverage the metrics to PIP management layers.
They are trying to do things to add to their annual review
I have always guessed that many of these mandates come from HR. Those people have to justify their positions some how so they create these useless mandates. They should be helping to make things easier, clear the path so we can get the work that is needed done. But no they create these mandates and then the managers don't balk and just go along and of course they expect you to still get all your work done.
On kyndryl side I see some mo--ns posting their AWS certs.
Get AWS certified only to stay working for min wage? doh
well they will use it to pip people rather than RA them Simples
Yes, there's lots of mandated useless training going on. IBM loves their useless mandates.
