People are sticking around for severance

I think management has miscalculated their moves. If their goal with constant layoffs was to create an atmosphere of fear that would force people to leave, I'm not sure it worked. In fact, I think it has had the opposite effect. I know many people who are done with Nike but are not leaving because they're waiting for severance. Why leave empty-handed when there's a possible safety net waiting for you?

I thought extorsion was illegal. I don't think you can force an employee to have s-x or they lose his or her job. I wouldn't think you could force an employee to take a dr-g or they lose his or her job. Is there a difference on the leverage used to extort? I would think those that did comply and take the jab would have cause to sue Nike. I would think that those who lost a job over not injecting themselves under duress would have cause to sue Nike. I would think this would go for any company who extorts an employee for anything. "AT WILL" should not be a license to extort an individual.

This nonsense about rising up and having a class action lawsuit if you get laid off for not getting vaccinated is total nonsense. Oregon is an "at will" employment state and if Nike decides that being vaccinated is something they want from employees, they can just get rid of the ones that don't meet their standard. If you don't think this is true, fu-k around and find out. The truth is that everyone is replaceable. The vast majority of Nike employees are already vaccinated and the small number that aren't will only be self-owning themselves if they lose their jobs. Honestly, if you disagree so much with this, why would you want to work at Nike anyway?

This is the smartest group I've seen. Oregon's 'Exception' form was written by a Constitutional Lawyer. If anyone hasn’t filled one out, I’d wait and do nothing and see if they fire you citing that you would not consent. Then you would more likely get a severance AND be able to sue. Oregon’s ‘exception’ form was written by a Constitutional lawyer, this should say something. Firing due to not consenting is ILLEGAL. You can sue based on: 1964 civil rights Public Accommodation laws, ORS677.090 Practicing medicine without a license, ORS 163.275 Coercion, Original US Constitution 1st & 4th amendments, Oregon State Constitution Article 1, section 1,3,4,8, 42 USC 12203: Prohibition against retaliation and coercion interference or intimidation. A mandate is NOT law. The People make law and government works for us. Executive Orders aren’t even law. The governor can not make law. OHSA and the OHA are private companies for profit and do not make law. Sh-t, if enough of you told Nike HR to shove it and just fire you you’d have a he-l of a class action lawsuit. When this whole mess is over, just watch. Look all this up. But if you fill out the exception form written by a CONSTITUTIONAL ATTORNEY (hello) you are consenting that the mandate is law and that it is valid and you remove your Constitutional Rights. This was posted in the other post also, but to wait makes for a stronger group who should be standing together for a class-action for noncompliance, because that is illegal. Turn off your TVs, get on other sources, like Telegram, channels like Free Oregon, for example, or ToreSays (https://t.me/TTT_Roll_Call), and see the actions being made against this tyranny. Call it like it is. Do it, amazing help and insight to what is real here.

I worked their for 25 plus years.
The first 18 were great. Surrounded with a lot of quality people who valued and respected our teammates. But then came the rise of the narcissistic sociopaths into leadership.
MP is an introvert who should have never been ceo. He allowed Trevor, Jean, Jaime, Cal, Rosemary etc to run ram shod over people.

Shame on all of them.

I was so glad to be let go from that sheet ho-e.

You should talk to some of us who were layed off. Yes we were glad to get a severance check. Few of us were happy to lose our jobs.

Not sure I agree with that OP.

Severance is only a temporary safety net greatly offset by the fact that finding a job AFTER you’ve been laid off or fired is often significantly more challenging than finding a job while you still have one. Not to mention it’s 100% more stressful at that point because you don’t have the same leverage nor do you have unlimited amounts of time to find something else.

In addition while the labor market is good right now there’s no guarantee it will still be good if within the next year or two Nike finds itself in a position where another large layoff needs to occur. If that happens it will likely be because of sour economic events that won’t only impact Nike. Personally I think the Chinese economy could implode at any moment and if you’ve been following the economic news over there you’ll understand why. If that happens it’ll take a good chunk of the US economy down with it. But that’s a story for another time.

Point is I doubt there are many people hoping to be let go just so they can collect severance. If I’m wrong about that it could turn into a case of “Be careful what you wish for because you may just get it.”

Truth be told I’m also not sure I even buy the narrative of “constant layoffs”. I know of some select pockets in the company where they are adjusting personnel as needed but aside from Tech I have not heard of any large and sweeping layoffs like what we’ve had in the last year. Last I checked Nike had well over 1,000 open positions and despite what you said OP about people not leaving I’ve actually seen a number of people recently quit for other jobs. They’re dropping like flies in one of the Brand orgs that shall remain unnamed. Those people definitely didn’t wait around for severance.

I resigned earlier this year and was able to negotiate a separation agreement including severance. Don’t count on it but it can be done…
