Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Thanks for the entertainment

Recently resigned and have greatly enjoyed this XOM layoff thread. Multiple times, the news I got here was faster and more accurate than the usual, formal channels.
And the trolls (on all sides) here add a nice extra dimension to the Dilbert-like XOM existence.

Good luck to those who still remain - here’s hoping the company returns to what made it so successful for so long, , vs the dumpster fire it has been lately.

Re: where to go?

Trading firms. They have toxic elements too, but your experience in O&G is value add. Look for Vitol and find their competition. Most places can't afford to pay what oil and gas can, and if you have certain skillsets, you can transition to Amazon or Google or trade firms.

I am clean for almost 1.5 months now but I still have cravings for this board. Not gonna lie, it is the best thing since sliced bread and I just love how this forum helped me through the first part of 2021.
(Ah and finally I am not geo locked from posting, back then I had to do it from the company laptop through vpn)

You are correct, coming back here is a great source of entertainment. But what is sad is seeing on LinkedIn "congratulate xxxx on y years with ExxonMobil". I always cringe, you poor person you haven't escaped yet...

OP hit the nail on the head. I left Exxon a few months ago but keep coming back to this board for the entertainment. I hardly ever post but just reading the messages and watching how this dysfunctional company operates is a blast. It’s like watching a train wreck.
I am beginning to think there are other ex-Exxon folks who come here for the entertainment.
For all the hardworking, decent employees currently at Exxon, I wish the best for you.
For all the incompetent brown nosing employees, supervisors and managers…. Go to h€ll

Just complain online and ask strangers in an anonymous message border to guide your career change. It will sort itself out. I’m sure it will be fine, you seem very motivated and any company would be lucky to have you.

What are the exit opps for us oil and gas people? Speaking for finance and accounting people, where can we exit to?

Because oil and gas is a whole diff accounting process, and I was thinking about resigning but I don't know what's available and applicable for me out there. any ideas?

Yes, I’d like to know also. I plan on hanging around until January. Take vacation and holidays, “work from home” most of the rest of the time, then vacation resets in January, then resign with 5+ weeks of paid vacation, start at new company and get vacation time there. What a country!

Can yy shed some light on resignation process? Anything to watch out for? Were you with Xom more than 5 years? How did pension payout work out? Looking to do the same in the next few weeks.
