Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Professional experience and knowledge don't matter

Praise your manager, don't appear as a threat to him or those above him, and nod yes to whatever you're asked, even if you know it's going to turn into a disaster. If you want to stay safe here, those are the steps you need to take. Nothing else matters, sadly. That's what this company has turned into.

Fiserv leaders don’t want ideas. They want you to do as told and say nice things about them. If you can do that you’ll last. If you want to make things better and grow, fiserv is not the place for you

This is actually pretty sound advice in order to survive in a bureaucracy. It's not great advice to self-actualize to your highest purpose, but it's a great way to keep a roof over your head in the meantime.

I'll tell you a story. My best friend has bounced from job to job over the course of his career. Everywhere he works is 'bu-----t', so he says. He tells me that he regularly voices his opinion to his boss and to anyone who'll listen what's wrong and how disastrous things are going to be. He gets laid off regularly. Now, well into middle age, the best he can manage is a tier-1 support job in a mid sized suburb.

He has experienced exactly ZERO career advancement in 25 years. He gets to set up user accounts and reset passwords every day. In middle age.

The lesson? Do the best you can to make things better, but don't be a squeaky wheel. Don't be annoying, and don't be a debbie downer. Help your boss achieve his objectives to the best of your ability.

Think, did the troops tell Patton in WWII "It's cold, and the food sucks, and my feet are sore! Whaaa!"

No, they figured out a way to kick a-s regardless.

Go along to get along, mindless submission. This is the worst advice to give to any human being. Experience is everything. There is no loyalty from this employer, why would you be a pa--y go along?
