Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

The real cisco

Cisco are the worst company I ever worked for. I have two out of court settlements because HR did not do their job. If Cisco HR say are you ok or show concern, it’s a trap. Be strong, document everything, ask for a data disclosure or GDPR, use a solicitors letter to get it. If there is a single hint of Cisco breaking their code of conduct, do not hesitate, take them to court for breach of contract, it’s the first clause in your employee contract. I hope to share the evidence one day, to demonstrate my story and expose Cisco, for now let the judicial system take its course because once Cisco are defeated legally they have no come back.

Or it could be that management was unethical and the OP was naive. Agreed though this is something that happened in Europe, the system in the UK is in between at-will in the US and Europe.

Just to clarify, yes I was in Europe, I dearly wold love to provide the evidence, but I wont jeopardise ongoing action. What I will say is it is serious, it goes to the top of Cisco. I hope my case was a one off. Yes it is stressful and I wish I had the courage to truly go all the way so the evidence could be shown and not settle out of court, by the way I had left, but the fact I can still get Cisco to settle out of court as new evidence comes to light shows Cisco know they were wrong and how bad it was. All I can do is say its real and be careful with this lot, they claim to be ethical etc, but the action I have seen does not show this. I understand those defending Cisco and wish them well. I was unlucky and had a very toxic exec who let the whole team down, unfortunately Cisco HR got it wrong. I was hoping they would follow the code of conduct and be fair, I got that very wrong. Good Luck to you all

have you ever had managers from BD&D?

OP, how were you still at Cisco to get a 2nd out-of-court settlement? Most people would have left after the first one. And with an "at will" employment, at least in the US, there's no way a US manager, director, VP or SVP would keep you in their department after that.

OP, I'm guessing you're outside the US. There is no employee contract in the US. Plus, every US hire signs an agreement agreeing to mediation and arbitration instead of taking issues to court.

I've rarely had issues with HR. Most of my interactions w/ HR are more on the benefits/payroll side of things trying to get issues resolved. The employee/manager HR thing, on the other hand, should be avoided at all costs.

At a company, not Cisco, some ID-10-T flamed me via email with a ton of bogus facts. The company had just announced that the site was closing and most of the work would be relocating to another state. People were quitting left and right instead of choosing to stay w/ the company & move. I replied to him, his manager, and my new manager with data disproving this dude's "facts" and closed with "Thank you for your worthless 2 cents." I don't know which of the three reported me to HR, but I got called in and asked to sign a document acknowledging my unprofessionalism. I crossed out the part that I agreed it was unprofessional and signed the doc and left HR's office.

At Cisco, I had a director take over during my first year when my remote manager suddenly quit. I received zero feedback from the directory that my performance was unsatisfactory and he cancelled all one-on-one's because he how had "too many people" to manage and we needed to send him messages IF we needed escalation or assistance from him. When I received a "bottom 10" review, I put as the comment to the rater: It is your responsibility to inform me if my performance is not up to your standards and you cancelled all one-on-one's. I've continued my performance that lead to conversion from contractor to employee, it it must have been good enough for my manager to hire me." Next thing I know, the director and I are sitting in HR's office discussing how I needed to send emails to my director to get his attention. Funny thing was, his reason for my bottom 10 rating: I didn't manage projects to his expectations. I'm not, and never have been, a project manager. As a technical lead on a project, that project went off on schedule, on budget, with no issues. Some other project manager leading a high visibility project went over budget, did not deliver so they split it into phases to claim that phase 1 delivered, and had major issues. How was that project manager rated that year? Top 10 % and got a bigger bonus funded by my lack of bonus that year. Plus, I got put on a PIP the next year which suddenly ended once Cisco announced an LR. (Yes, it was one of the early ones where they gave advanced notice.) No surprise that I was LR'd. Welcome to the good ol' boy's network where if you play golf w/ the director you advance.

I think we can infer a lot through the lack of proper grammar.

I’m pleased it’s ok for you, and there are many who go through Cisco without issue. However you are assuming by saying Im the one attracting trouble it’s my fault. Im happy to identify myself if Cisco agree to me issuing the emails and evidence and the behaviour of the Cisco execs, if Cisco are so ethical and do no wrong then they have nothing to hide. Would you and other employees be ok with that. I think I deserve the right let you decide whether it was me or Cisco at fault.

I've worked at Cisco 10+ years and have never had any issue with HR. Nor have I ever had any reason to take Cisco to court. And here you are with two settlements?? I guess some people just attract trouble.
