Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I do not believe that IBM will learn a lesson

quitting is the only way to make ibm do anything

: I used to think like this, that this company will realize that it's losing great people and do something to keep it from happening, but now I don't think so anymore. If IBM wanted to do something, they would have done it long before they lost some of the best people. My opinion is that when IBM decides to change something, it will be too late.......

BRUH. YOU ARE DELUSIONAL.
They will simply replace developers with cheap underpaid new grad hires.

Hi, that was my original statement in other thread.

Ibm cannot hire anyone with relevant experience and degree in usa, the job market is that hot. (Side note: they've started hiring high school grads as interns now).
If only more people would quit ibm, the managers will lose their arrogance and start respecting developers.

All other companies are having problem hiring but they all know it and are almost worshipping developers. Other company managers are making videos about how amazing it is to work for them.

Op, i agree a bit with you that Ibm won't learn the lesson to that extent because their plan is to just buy companies (and they're not a tech company anymore) but it'll surely humble some of the useless managers.

“ Nordics and Benelux IBM regions to merge. Fresh off the press. Not sure what that means to employment?”

The entire Board of Directors needs cleaning out until this happens business as usual.. JW was never going to retain control of IBM. Even if he could he's no Lou Gerstner. No, IBM will continue it's tiny climb the way it has said it would. Single digit growth for the next few years.

IBM is run by Finance now (the penultimate stage in the death cycle of a large company, right before Run By Legal), so it no longer has the ability to recognize the value of individual contributions, let alone the cost of losing the best individual contributors.

As long as the headcount is not exceeded and salary is within budget, Finance is happy.

IBM do no longer possess the skills, talent, knowhow, leadership, client contacts or funds to develop products and services ensuring relevance and growth. Decades of mismanagement led to this.

Only chance I see is for IBM to stop buying small companies, and let the competition buy the pieces they think are investment materiel (and that still include the Mainframe - but perhaps not for long as it also starts to lack as it does not have pricing and features that ensure it's growth in itself).

I left recently. Jim W leaving was the last straw for me. It was clear what that meant in terms of the future direction. Now I read this forum as some kind of catharsis even though I have a new job somewhere else. It’s too bad IBM has become what it has, there are so many of us devoting so many brain cycles to it wishing that things could have been different.

there is literally no one that IBM cares enough about to lift a finger. maybe some local org. can be concerned about some specific individuals. but overall, you could be donald knuth/herman hollerith/your particular deity... IBM don't care.

IBM will not change until we get a new CEO from outside the company. Everybody thoughts that would be JW, but AK took care of him, didn’t he?

If you are planning to stick with IBM, now is a good time to pressure your management to get a raise.
