I know no job is safe but rumors about layoffs before the end of the year make me very anxious because that would be the worst possible time to get laid off. Is it even possible to somehow make the job any safer? Work harder than ever, work better or something else?

Called the health manager requesting a restroom break. One of my coworkers came to cover the desk for me while I went. Don’t mean to be graphic but had to do number 2 and was feeling really constipated , so it was one of those #2s where was in there for a while there was a lot of pushing what ended up being a fairly small product. But while I was po----g the health wellness manager knocked on the door and she told me “don’t flush the toilet, I will flush it for you”. I was confused but I figured there was a severe issue with the toilet or plumbing something that I wasn’t told about.
So I finished my business and my manager went in after me and flushed it. She later came up to me and told me that in the future I need to exit the bathroom as soon as I’m done using the toilet. That’s when I realized she literally went into the bathroom to examine at my ex------t to see if I was really doing the #2. And since i only produced one little tu-d I guess she assumed I was just hanging out in there. Yes, a boomer boss lady, waaaay beyond retirement age. That's the US.

This country needs real workers rights. The only salaried positions that are worth it are ones with variable pay like bonuses/commission.
Only you can control your experience. If that place was ok, then so be it. But be careful, we're all fungible on the corporate plantation. Reality was that which, even after you stop believing it, still exists.
It was a a transformative process. Working there was eye opening in many ways. It was sad that people still work there because they won't or cannot leave.
Isn't it sad to see how immature some people can be. Bless their hearts.

Keep your eyes open they will do everything they can to make your life miserable to try and get you to quit. They will start picking at the simplest details. This is to try and get you to quit. Lawyer up if you feel you're being treated unfairly too.
If you apply to a job please make sure they state what that "competitive" salary is. If not stated, then refuse to apply to a position that doesn't list salary. No longer worth our time to be continually duped by the US empire
Do the minimum then bail. No "safe" or "safer" jobs anywhere here unless you're into snack trains, friday pizza, balloons, and lollypops.

No job (at Optum) is safe. Just do the minimum required to not get fired and then collect unemployment benefits if/when it happens.
