Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How much are technical abilities valued here now?

Cisco is not a technical company any more. It is a relationships based company focused on “architectures” and other terms like that. Your ability to be paid more is entirely focused on this, nothing to do with your technical or engineering abilities or qualifications. Cisco does not care about your engineering background..

That’s what I keep saying, Cisco cares less and less about someone’s technical skills.

A lot of hires today wouldn't know what they were looking at if they saw a Wireshark trace of a TCP flow

No, but they are fully up to date on important stuff like intersectionality, micro-aggressions and non-binary pronouns.

There is zero value in technical skillset or ability. It is entirely upon being a social justice token hire. That is who leadership cares about employing and promoting despite their gross inability to do the job.

A lot of hires today wouldn't know what they were looking at if they saw a Wireshark trace of a TCP flow. Totally different company now - the bar is much lower. Internally focused buzzword bingo and TPS report completion are the primary skills now.
