Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Operational Risk Roles

Why does Wells have so many Operational Risk Management roles posted on job boards? I am interested in applying for the Operational Risk Management role within the CIB line of business as I currently work in a similar role at a larger bank that is big player in CIB

Does anyone have any insight on this? I am aware of the banks issues (reg, asset cap etc) but not sure how the CIB business is and if operational risk in the 2 line of defense would be a good role? I do know that the firm as a whole has had a lot of operational problems so i assuming CIB would have its fare share as well.

Any input will be appreciated.

too many consent orders with regulators we need all these risk consultants babysitting every transaction the bank performs.

Someone with Enterprise Op Risk view. CB and CIB are the absolute worst risk areas in WF bar none. Not even close by any measure. Just wait for some news to come out about one of those areas.

My experience, most things CIB focused are run tighter than the other LOBs. Not necessarily aligned to how the enterprise as a whole wants to do things, but on the whole in better shape than say CB or any of the consumer based businesses and associated risk and support functions. Just my take as someone who has covered/supported a few different businesses over the last decade.

@uzd+1dKJntbH what do you mean 25% to move to WFIP? And what is WFIP?

The comment on leadership being good was about cib risk, not risk overall.

Stay away; maybe in five years look again.

Because skeletons are overflowing closets, people in risk are quitting. Salaries in operational risk are far below market. I've heard on meetings a goal of 25% to move to WFIP -- good folks are leaving before regulators visit for repeat findings.

Wells Fargo Operational Risk is a nightmarish disaster. Most are looking and interviewing to get out of either Corporate Risk or Wells Fargo altogether.
You have been warned!

Risk has good leadership ???? Almost choked on my coffee. ITV leader is an attorney with zero testing experience. Most leaders lack recognizable industry certifications. They swim by the numbers of years of experience in risk management which is laughable considering there hasn’t been any good here.

Risk jobs are going to India. With the rollout of rcsa controls will be defined and I believe maybe once or twice tested in the us before handover to India.

I’d look elsewhere.

Lots of people are leaving Risk because they were once remote and now the RTO is forcing everyone who once were remote for years into a office. Questions have been asked during the townhall meetings with Mandy and team asking why is RTO being pushed when it has been proven risk has been successful for the last year plus working remote. They gave a generic response about collaboration with peers. Risk has a good leadership group overall but I'm not sure I would recommend coming here.

the job description should say if it's first line or second line; if it has "business" risk in the job title that's first line; if it's "operational risk" that's second line. That's a fairly new team, leadership is good but if you're not in one of the listed locations don't bother. Pay is better than our large peers but culture is shot. Most of the good talent have already left or are in process of finding something new. So end of the day, I wouldn't recommend it if you have other options.

A very similar question was pretty much asked only about a week ago. You may want to check prior posts.
