Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Integrity

Noticed inflated credentials and fabricated titles for a few current and former employees on LInkedIn. Speaks volumes.

Integrity is about truth even in challenging times.

It’s a shock just to see the word Integrity on a site dedicated to EM. “Snake pit” rather comes to mind.

But be careful if you inflate your title...either future employer thinks you might be too expensive to hire (if you are looking for one) or they hire you because they thought you are at that level before, and you just then realized that the responsibility is too big for you....
But again, LinkedIn is a social media platform...some people just want to portray themselves differently from real lives....

You should inflate your title on LI. Because EM suppresses your title. Examples: many engineers in EM equivalent to leads in other companies. Many Lead/supervisor positions in EM are equivalent to manager positions in other companies. Many manager positions in EM are equivalent to directors, VP, and so forth. EM diminishes titles to try to keep you from getting poached. So fu-k your actual title, normalize it to industry.

My base is $240k. My title is “Advisor.” I have no direct reports.

This place is nuts.

Funny enough...just because you are paid more does not mean that you have higher responsibility and you can survive working in a smaller company...just look at the VP...they are the one who runs the business, but when it comes to giving raise to prevent employee attrition, nothing much that they can do...please ask HR...in some other company, the managing director can give direction to HR based on business needs, as that is how "real business" works...I hope employees who are leaving EM know how "real world" works out there....

As someone who recently left EM I can say some of this is necessary because of the way EM deflates titles to begin with.

I was making almost $200k per year in Controllers and has been a financial reporting supervisor. You know what? In EVERY other company on the planet, that same job I had was a financial director position, so you bet i called it a finance Director position on LinkedIn and on my resume. EM could call it “Financial Peon” for all I care — it was a Director role with Director responsibilities and Director level pay. I don’t need to call it one thing just because some dude sitting in HR typed a title into SHARP once 15 years ago.

There is this fraud person from UIS RTD who keeps posting and tagging all sorts of lowly managers. He showcases his fake online certificate from a big school as if he graduates from there. If you look in his LinkedIn profile, his undergrad degree school name is conveniently missing. How long can we take such shallow and fraudulent colleagues?

Also have come across this. People adding alphabet soup after their name without having the certificates

What other chance do many of the rubes at this company have of landing something anywhere else evenly remotely comparable to the oversized salaries they’re collecting now? They have to lie and be dishonest or they won’t stand a chance. Once they actually start interviewing the places interviewing them should be able to easily cut through the cr-p and see how laughable their XOM-proprietary credentials really are.

So true. Seen lots of job titles that sound way more important than the job actually is.
