Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What Side Of The Coin Are You On?

I truly love the two post from these individuals. Definitely intelligent and thoughtful about the current state of Chevron:

Poster 1: @1kui+1dKt6RAp

Each of you that are getting upset about the post are just falling into the trap of pointing out the Chevron Way does not exist anymore.

I think the original OP feels threatened from Chevron's big move to put more women in leadership positions. When you give one gender, race, or other preferential treatment on getting a job, by sheer definition you are discriminating against another gender, race, etc. Chevron has absolutely discriminated against white males in the last several years. We all just need to agree with that point. Chevron is attempting to correct a years long bias culture and in this attempt, very good white men are getting let go.

It this ok? Do two wrongs make a right? The chairman is creating his legacy and just like in war, there are winners and losers. The winners are the women moving into these leadership roles and the losers are the men they are displacing. The women see this as a great move forward into financial freedom and unfortunately, some of the men are finding themselves in financial ruin.

The big key here is no matter what side of the coin you are on, you need to always be courteous and find you own solution. Bragging that you kicked a guy out of a job and stating there is more to come only incites people. Telling everyone you are a victim and resorting to name calling only incites people.

Find your own positive path forward. Remember, there is always two sides to a coin. Win-Win does not exist in Chevron. For every winner, there must be a loser. Once again, find your own positive path regardless of which side of the coin you land.

"The big key here is no matter what side of the coin you are on..."

The respondent appears to make the case that there is no moral obligation on this new direction. You either "win" or "lose" and your level of support on "visual diversity" depends on your personal outcome.
Or to say it another way, "He's Ying and She's Yang" so everyone's point is equally valid.

NO. There is a moral obligation here. Discrimination is unjust.
I don't care who it's helping.
A righteous end does not justify ungodly means.

If "visual diversity" is the cover phrase applied to inflict discrimination on a fellow employee it should be called out in the meeting/e-mail/discussion immediately & respectfully. This will take fortitude and resolve by supervisors and managers - both male & female alike.

@6xza, oh, I didn't need to "take advantage", I am not a white male and earned everything that I have. Something tells me you didn't and are guilt-ridden. If you have to ask the question "What is the proof you have that the women or minorities getting jobs white men didn’t get aren’t qualified? " then you haven't been paying attention, or simply like to live with your head in the sand. Either way, that's on you.

@6mvi+1dMkgbma sounds like you should’ve taken more advantage when white men unfairly got promoted for jobs they didn’t deserve or earn because people overlooked women and minorities.
What is the proof you have that the women or minorities getting jobs white men didn’t get aren’t qualified?
Sounds like you’re the smug one.
Boy are white men really full of audacity and entitlement.

What the smug minority folks here who have been handed jobs that they did not earn, merit nor deserve can't handle is at Chevron, if a female/minority is in a tie with a white male, the job goes to the the female/minority. I challenge anyone that says different. Even when the white male has more qualifications, the female/minority can get the job because the team has no visible diversity.

We talk about being open and honest and then people get really upset when we talk about it. Yes, we have put some women/minorities in roles just because they are women/minorities. Discrimination in Chevron is alive and well and it will continue for the foreseeable future. Don't be afraid to talk about.

@5xlf, it has little to do with age or skin color. Your descent into poverty as well as irrelevancy will occur rapidly enough through the current social engineering experiment as the woke leftist elite bathe in their power over you, superficial glory and eventually drown in their own narcissism. The same experiment has been tried and failed throughout history. We peasants with nothing to lose will watch and laugh as you collapse under your own selfishness!

If Chevron has been discriminating against the male, pale and stale contingent for so many years then the management ranks wouldn't be so over-represented by the cracker class.

Old, white males sure don't like having the tables turned. Enjoy your descent into irrelevancy as the world moves on without you.

@3ufb, Oh, I am already, "someday" is today, "obviously". I assumed you knew that, it's so obvious. It's OK, you've made it clear that you obviously are an anonymous special kind of special. You just don't know how hard it is to anonymously achieve an anonymous "special kind of special". It's like writing a special kind of anonymous short story about yourself where you can be anything that you want to be.

@3qbv, obviously you're under 35, or on the Chevron high p-t gravy train. Work about 30 years for Chevron, and you'll retire quite nicely, no financial worries. I sincerely hope that someday you can join those of us comfortably retired.

@2lri, It's obvious that your idea of a "large fortune" and the commonly accepted one are very different.....

The new reality is that MW's Chevron believes in equality of outcome, not equality of opportunity (See RM, the USPS, the current administration's Cabinet). When that equity is achieved by choosing from a clearly smaller staff base, that's discrimination (or employment quotas). What we're led to believe is that somehow that smaller staff base is technically superior, therefore more should be promoted. More power to you if you don't develop an ulcer believing such propaganda. I retired last year after watching MW's Chevron develop, all I can say is good luck, current employees! Keep your resumes current, develop your career on your own terms, and jump ship as soon as Chevron starts slowing your career development. There ARE greener pastures out there.

I have to admit that I enjoyed the best 29 years the company offered and I made a large fortune from my pay and investing. But, I’m so glad I’m retired and no longer with Chevron. I got out before all my good memories tarnished from the current work atmosphere and woke ideology.

Does Chevron discriminate during layoffs, or is there some other reason to post that on this site?

Chevron openly discriminates against white males in job selections, salary administration, and promotions. I have seen it first-hand and it is amazing that a company this size is able to get away with this without class action lawsuits and the Feds getting involved. Shameful and illegal.

No way the woke queen and her cohorts will allow selections based on qualifications or proven ability

Selecting people based on their qualifications is not a reality. If you are a MARC person, the statement of selecting people on qualifications is in direct conflict. Equality and preferential treatment are in direct conflict when it comes to jobs.

As long as I can remember (25+ years) here at Chevron, if a female/minority is in a tie with a white male, the job goes to the the female/minority. I challenge anyone that says different. Even when the white male has more qualifications, the female/minority can get the job because the team has no visible diversity.

Regardless of the reason, making job selections by gender, ethnicity, religion etc. is illegal. Discrimination is discrimination. Select people based on their qualifications.....Period!
