Can confirm. They are waiting to see how many people leave after the 15th which will probably be enough that they don’t have to have layoffs.
The sad part is that all of the smart people are the smart ones leaving.

No more layoffs this year because HR is working hard at a nefarious plan for the first quarter of 2022. Enjoy the rest of the year with a paycheck still coming, see you all in January for another bloodbath.

Ibm would be the only big company to be doing layoffs in this hot market, if they do.

Ibm sucks, why would anyone want to work at this sh-t company

Approx 1/2 of the new infrastructure division is non-strategic. (Eg the distributed infrastructure piece) AK has said new IBM is all about AI, Hybrid Cloud, Redhat, and enterprise including HW and application modernization) IBM will most likely partner the non-strategic distributed infrastructure pieces (Scaleout HW, TSS, and lab services) off as they contain a lot of IP technology that IBM can mine and other companies can take advantage of. IBM will layoff other pieces of the business that have lower margins, or overlapping/non-performing engagements. (TPP, legacy IBM SW and cloud SW, plus excessive higher band levels including management) GTS was the leading problem child when it came to loss of revenue and shrinking profits due to the commoditization of infrastructure and its labor content. Now that that is gone, IBM has to clean up the rest of the legacy that doesn’t fit into AK’s new go to market strategy.

high growth verticals

What a crock. The only vertical we have is Mainframe, and it is not growing.

IBM is transitioning their business model to “high growth verticals” The question is can they survive the debt they are taking on, or can they shed the low growth verticals quickly

Sorting through the raw data, a definite pattern has emerged of IBM Layoff Notifications being made on the Thursday of the Third Week of the Month, wherein that Month is the next-to-last Month of the Quarter. This allows for a 30-Day Notice that you're being fired, so your salary is no longer debited against Finance's ledger by the start of the next quarter. Make no mistake, this is purely a financial move driven by Finance and executed by HR. If your manager schedules a meeting with you around that timeframe, you're probably being fired. Your manager will read from a script: "There's been a Resource Action, and your job has been affected. Your last day with the company will be ...." Be prepared to hear those words, and realize that in an instant, your manager and the IBM Corporation have become your legal adversaries. Anything you say can, and will, be used against you, so the less you say the better. Just end the conversation as quickly as you can, saying as little as possible. Avoid the temptation to lash out or make threats, which can cause legal problems for you. If you can, lawyer-up ahead of time with a good employment lawyer, and avail yourself of her or his advice.

Given IBM’s current policy of 30/90 days, the timing lines up quite nicely. IBM definitely needs to continue to reduce headcount if they want to get competitive. I suspect low margin parts of the business (TPP), non-strategic parts of the business ((Power/storage/and their clouds) along with TSS), and overhead (management, legacy IBM replaced by purchases, and upper band levels who are not performing) are in the crosshairs. NOTE these areas will be hit in 2022, so this may just be accelerating into 2021 to get the bad news behind them

There is massive organizational restructuring happening right now. I wouldn't be surprised.
