Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Stop Fooling Yourselves

Posts about people leaving their current employer (usually O&G) for a posh job with ideal working conditions and huge pay increases are (at best) unsubstantiated, and can be found on every board on this site.

Reality: The people being shown the door or leaving on their own are mostly men over age 50 with expert knowledge in legacy systems, and the only work they’re finding is of the 1099 type consulting for specific short-duration projects related to those systems. How do I know this? I’m the one receiving the resumes and conducting the interviews. I’m not fooled, nor should anyone else be.

Ok where I work I make good money at exxon. I could leave and work at a plant with overtime and nearly triple my pay. Or I could go downstream and make similar pay. I have many skills that could be used in other industries. So there is always worse and better places to work. Both in pay and work environment. If you are young leave. If you are older and waiting for 55 medical and some money retire and work part time contract. I don't like the people and bs at ExxonMobil. Many of our skills can transfer to other industries. So look around and when you retire dye your hair for the interview. True story one of my old just piped friends got no job offes with Grey hair. He added some black hair dye and got three job offers. True story. Remember exxons trashed piped workers are other companies treasure. Sc--w the arrogance of ExxonMobil. I wish we could strike or do a walkout or a mass day off to teach these arrogant ba----ds a lesson.

Employee referral + leetcode prep.

Employee referrals bonus is a 4-5 figure number (depending on the company), so even people you might not know that well will be happy to refer you.

@Everyone: Nobody said anything about a cube (hideous piece of corporate art).

Most of those claiming to be landing posh jobs with large tech firms and massive pay increases, along with ideal working conditions, are probably full of it.

@wba You’re underpaid. Depending on the company/industry new grads can net $80k/yr right after commencement. Based on your number, a 2x pay bump places you below what the average software engineer earns at most tech firms operating to scale. That doesn’t even include stock options.

You’re full of it, and desperately posting it on any thread your sponsor tells you to. We can all see on LI how people we know and have been laid off or PIPed have found jobs, even if it took a while.

OP, please do your research in Glassdoor and see how EM comps stacks up (or down) with other companies and industries. Also, 50+ are nearing retirement, so why leave EM if they can still compete.

Doesn’t match my LinkedIn either. All have been young and I’d say it’s been 50/50 on male/female. Seriously OP, people over 50 are not going to have a propensity to post Cube pictures on LinkedIn. But nice try on the troll attempt, A for effort.

The people in the cube pics I’m seeing, do NOT look to be over 50. Either they are aging very well, or OP’s post is very wrong. Is this BK or some fool from Irving?

Clearly a troll. I know over 6 people personally that got hired by big tech, under the age of 27, two being female and one non white. And it’s very well documented what the pay scale is for those companies. 2-3 times more than the measly 84k US devs make here.

Well done. Remind us, what's the objective of your post please?

People I know who left without retiring were all young engineers not EMIT. All did very well outside. No one over 50 is leaving unless PIPed between 50-52. Too much money to leave on the table. Maybe you are only getting the retired crowd.
