Funny. We were just told to stop using SNOW and go back to PAC2000 for some things.

What a joke.

I don't care if it's called SCP or Six Sigma or Agile. If it requires work do be done in person, it's an obsolete methodology. Slap whatever name on the cult that you like, but in person work is out of date. The future is remote worldwide collaboration.

Pro Tip: put a piece of clear scotch tape over your camera.

It lets enough light in so that their monitoring software doesn't detect that you've covered it (or turned it off) while making it impossible for them to actually see anything.

They may have a whole in their idea of forced cameras if VDI and BYOD is implemented. How many personal devices at home are dedicated workstations with no camera. ha ha ha!!!!

I can turn my camera on, but just put tape over it. Problem solved. Cameras forced on would be a huge issue.

I don't care Daily Standups are supposed to be in person. Agile was created 20+ years ago before modern collaboration tools were developed.

Forcing in person collaboration is outdated which is why many software companies have been letting developers work from home on Agile teams BEFORE COVID.

@1glz+1dRMYQOE what you are describing is not agile. 1. They are called ceremonies and 2. daily stand ups are supposed to be in person and with everyone standing up in order to keep everyone paying 100% attention to the meeting and to make it shorter. Lazy developers who are rude like to call into these meetings and totally ignore everything people are saying in them. That doesn't happen in a real stand up. It is next to impossible. You get better team work with daily in person contact with the working team.

That article posted didn't say anything about in person, except one small sentence about open offices. As I pointed out it was just about teamwork.

And again you are wrong. Most of my friends are developers as well, outside WF, and they have been WFH pre-COVID.

None of them have actual stand ups. They don't pass a conch around. They don't call them ceremonies.

The principles can be followed without all the cultish nonsense.

@1kve+1dRMYQOE don't try to move the goal posts. open floor plan offices does not equal in person team work for team meetings AND OMG have you ever heard of it, no you havent, paired programming/extreme programming. Don't pretend that just because you sc--w around during meetings that it is healthy for the meetings. You are wasting everyone's time by not fully participating in the scrum ceremonies. Tech companies haven't decided to work from home because of better productivity but because of the covid related issues right now.

@1rfw+1dRMYQOE

Did you even bother reading that article?

It said NOTHING about where team members are located. It was about working together as a team.

The closest mention of location is mentioning open office layouts. Which by the way open office layouts REDUCE productivity.

@1luo+1dRMYQOE

Wrong. Many software companies now do work from home for their agile teams. I have multiple friends who work for them.

The whole notion of standing up is nonsense. It isn't needed. Short meetings can be managed by the Scrum Master. Most people prefer short focused meetings anyway and it is usually just one or two people who like to talk that need to be kept in check. Good Scrum Masters can do this without the weird cult nonsense.

@1luo+1dRMYQOE Scrum teams have been proven to work better in person when in meetings. Agile stand ups should be STAND UPS where people actually remain standing and do not multitask. Multitasking in meetings is not a good use of the teams time.

This was the tech town hall. It didn't cover other LOBs.

Tech had been bleeding heavily as people had been leaving for other WFH jobs.

Hopefully this is an acknowledgement of what other corporations have known for a few years. Agile teams can be WFH.

@1cfk+1dRMYQOE you don't need to apologize if you really arent sexist nor racist and you believe that men should not be disproportionately reflected in management and leadership and you also do not believe white men and indian men should be disproportionately represented in tech. (indians are represented due to agreements with india and indian men are overwhelmingly represented due to the blatant sexism) And no I do not believe any s-x or race is better or worse than another.

@1iwy+1dRMYQOE you are gaslighting and ignoring blatant facts. Tell us, why do you think there are more men than women in management and leadership? could it be...that you are sexist and you believe that men are just better? (if this is true I bet you also ignore all of the studies that disprove this...but go ahead...tell us why you believe men are overwhelming in management and leadership)

@1iaj+1dRMYQOE nope not a boomer and you need to relook at your sexism. If there wasn't sexism in the workplace women would accurately be reflected in all levels of management. Use your brain.

@1cqn+1dRMYQOE you aren't helping by pretending women were accurately represented as leaders. Sorry but the names you listed are a very small minority compared to the men represented. I suggest you study it. (I'm totally ok making you face it)

You're not helping women by calling everyone a sexist. As a woman close to retirement age, I have dealt with sexism, and this is not it. We've come a long way towards correcting the wrongs of the past, and Wells Fargo has done a lot to get us there. You only saw one woman, but I saw at least four in senior leadership. Compare this to a decade ago, and you can't deny that we've come a long way. Also, consider that only 57% of women in the US are part of the workforce.

My take: SNOW is just another shiny new tool. Nothing's going to change.

You can take an old clunker of a car and slap a fresh coat of paint on it, but it's still going to be a clunker. Adding another layer of paint doesn't fix what's on the inside.

They need the employees for churn in most lower level jobs. They can compete for talent when they need to, but can also offshore or break up the higher paying jobs into separate lower paying positions if the needs arise as well. Being in large metro locations gives them a larger pool to choose from. Small towns are harder to find employees to fill in shortages if the company gets a bad rep for high turnover.

@lwj+1dRMYQOE, maybe so but having lots of folks in hub locations but still telecommuting is beyond asinine. And the bank should be extremely careful because competition for talent will be extremely high in hubs specifically, and the ability to telecommute will be attractive to many.
