The location strategy has not only caused me anxiety, it's made me reconsider my discretionary spending. I've been in this very cautious mindset for almost two years now, putting off larger vacations and home improvements. I imagine others have felt the same -- putting off buying a new car, a new house, etc.
How has being in limbo for literally months -- with no end in sight -- affected you?
The only thing I’ve put off is purchasing a new home in my current location because of the move and the market is too high in my opinion. I was lucky and missed the first round of relocation packages but other people on my team and in my location received packages. Then Covid happened. Covid saved a lot of people who were required to move that’s for sure.
Massive downsizing here just in case. Cost reduction and building a cash reserve. Either to move with a better opportunity, or to remain comfortable after a layoff.
@tac, So how does that explain the hub that’s not a hub? You know, San Francisco and the Bay Area? Remember, our headquarters is STILL in SF! Why?? Just a slap in the face. Does anyone have a legit explanation for it? At this point, my guess is Chucky’s trolling us.
Old businesses can try to cling to the old ways.
Progress has no time to spare for them.
With layoffs happening, a good idea for anyone working at WF to be cautious on expenditures. Chuckles would let you go in a minute if he thinks he can save a buck and damn the consequences because he’ll be gone by then.

Why worry? On any given day, look at the cards you're holding and play your best hand.
I have been putting off searching for a new house for this reason.
It won't be abandoned. It's a trend across many workplaces now. Even though they might allow remote work, you still have to live near one of their designated hub cities. They are working to expand the population of cities and choke employment out of smaller or more rural areas. It will pick up speed once more things are automated.
What WF does, or doesn't, do will not affect my planning. My life continues forward with, or without, them.
