@3uup ….I have seen contractor work! Actually they did a nice job. You have to police them….but, they will do it right.

Not a chance FT jobs are being outsourced! T is hiring former Uverse and Directv techs for their union field techs. They have zero experience, but at least they're not contractors. They're being hired even though the work is not there! Techs are doing one job per day usually done in 2-3 hours, easy peasy!

1st level manager posted that. A bitter 1st level who is probably being p o o p e d on from above and then from below. The 1st levels can be the ones to go. In my department ZERO have any field or inside or ANY technical experience making our job easier. They have no clue. All our 1st level does is work from home and do a schedule and approve timesheets. All of which can be done by a contractor because guess what? With all of the managers leaving this year there will b so many openings and NONE of craft want those spots. We’d rather be laid off than take a first level spot . Remember the less there are of us, the more obsolete you become .

You heard it wrong. Tgey are just outsourcing the managers since they are worthless the technicians would do fine without any of you.

ABFS techs, Customer Engineer III do not cross over to do C.O. work or LNS work. Perhaps, T is planning on getting rid of CEIII techs since there is only a handful left in the company.

As for the poster who mentioned at&t contractor "Enjoy", they are the field staff that deliver your online purchase of AT&T smartphone ie iPhone and activate it for you at your home. They do not do any tech fieldwork; more like a "white glove" set up service.

As for AT&T contractors, they have been around for years and do the heavy lifting construction (e.g. dig up and repair/bore&trench, place underground conduit) that AT&T CWA OPT do not have to do. At least in Northern California, most pole setting is done by either AT&T or PG&E. Starting this year, Comcast doesn't even let contractors place poles anymore.

So, very unlikely AT&T would outsource most CWA inside/outside field tech or OPT or Splicing.

back to no shows and jepping everyone's orders ; watch the sales vs install rate - kinda funny how brain surgeons just can't quite figure it out.

Why you got to be so bitter OP? If you hate your coworkers so much find a door and leave.

The wages of low level managers are based on craft wages so careful what you wish for. They base L1 compensation at about 10 percent higher than highest craft wage. If compensation for craft workers goes down , so does management’s.

OP sounds like a salty low level manager with an attitude. AT&T technicians work very hard for their compensation.

If you need to pull out the tissues and cry because technicians receive fairly decent pay, benefits and union representation in return for their contribution to this company's success, then maybe YOU are the cry baby with the problem.

No matter what anyone says, CWA is responsible for the decent pay at T today. 40 years ago CWA wielded significant power and forced T to cough up decent wages and benefits, not so much today. Hard to believe CWA is holding still for all the bennie cuts, not the same CWA I knew.

Never been a part of any union.
Field techs don't make the rules, their supervisors / managers do...
Unionized employees are not cry babies.
But totally stand by them as 100% necessary for people to earn a living wage.

I believe ABFS will be sold off to either NCR or IBM and get out of the WiFi and MIS services business. T can get many billions for it if they decide to do so and help pay off some of that obscene debt it carries.

That’s entirely possible but at least in the northeast there are CWA and ibew techs doing ABFS work. The CWA techs also do telco 23 installs as well. It goes without saying they are different job titles but still under the same AM and AVP in business field services. The CWA techs are still at this time NTS Which is the same title as the c/o techs in network engineering operations in a different management hierarchy I’m guessing this will be addressed in the upcoming contract negotiations

Get your 2 - 3 years in and get out. T does not want career employees, they only want transient employees. Fact.

Bring it. I'm a FT , T paid for all of my college and certifications while I "worked" on their dime. I make almost as much dough working part time for a regional competitors help desk. Look around you and tell me if you think this is a successful enterprise. The answer will determine your outcome. Enjoy the ride & everyone gets what they deserve.

They are hiring currently for massive fiber build. Once complete the surplusing will start.

And don’t think 3rd party is not an option. AT&T already has some agreements with a company called ENJOY.

Google what that company does.

No plan like that.

The plan is to reduce the quality of service so low and the availability of replacement equipment so difficult and appointment times for repair and installation so far out that customers are forced to find alternative means of obtaining service.

Customer attrition is the plan.

DREAM ON...not happening! The company made an agreement to keep work in-house and not send any to outside vendors. Permanent full-time techs are being hired in my area from other areas that are being down sized! None of our work is being outsourced no matter what the circumstances are. Looks like T is keeping its word and honoring the agreement!
