Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Oligarchy

Hard to believe a company who claims to believe in innovation can’t innovate themselves. In the middle of a pandemic and the flu season, they mandate their employees to go back to the office. Leaders consistently preach collaboration supposedly only happens in the office, yet record profits made last year and this year because of employees hard work all while working from home. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds for them when more and more people choose to leave for companies who are willing to adapt to a new mindset where most of these jobs can be done successfully from home, giving people a true work life balance. Parents walking their kids to the bus stop before they start their day instead of an hour plus drive to work. Using their breaks and lunch time to pick up their kids from the bus stop when they get home from school instead of seeing them at 6pm because it took them an hour plus to get home. A work life balance has become even more important now, especially for parents and families. The old way does not work anymore and BOA will lose talent because they are not willing to see a new and different way. The future of work should not only be about record profits for corporations, there should be a balance in making employees happy as well. Happy employees work harder and give more back. Most people worked additional hours because the time they would have spent in traffic they gave it to their work. BOA should earn an award for insensitivity, reckless with their employees well being and health but most of all proven to be an extremely uncaring company.

@4stz+1dTfszfp or it could be that @2bte+1dTfszfp is one of the many U.S BoA employees that are middling, udereducated and not a grammar n@~¡ such as yourself.

that's why U.S. employees are being outsourced to third world countries since why pay the U.S. employees nore whennyou can get the same type of uneducation but more productive work and less complaints from India or Latin America.

@2bte+1dTfszfp

any time you unnecessarily add an "S" to the end of a word, readers know that you are Indian or Hispanic. Just FYI.

The plural of severance isn't severances. The plural of insurance isn't insurances. And so forth.

The answer to “why now” is that many people take off the last half of December. They won’t be expecting 100% in the office until after the first of the year. Makes it easier for them to phase in people on 12/15, then on January.

This is all about BofA using a hardline RTO stance to drive up attrition so they can avoid severances and cut costs by outsourcing more roles to India.

If I get a breakthrough infection I will leave. Short sighted leadership and thinking. They are just in a huge rush to get us all back in because the longer we are out, the harder it will be for them to actually convince anyone that this makes any sense.

The CFO Group is calling back 300 associates in CLT on Dec 15th. Planning to pack us in an open shared workspace floor just in time for the holiday spike in cases. Why now? They tell us it’s the earliest time to safely RTO… Really?

Look at Europe and the upper Midwest right now. Germany and Austria have higher vaccination rates and are going into lockdown. We have been 2-4 weeks behind Europe with trending since this pandemic began. It is reckless and dismissive of employee health and well-being to move forward now especially with no hybrid approach.

Why don't they send out Christmas cards to us too?

"Wishing you a Very Covid Holiday and an Unhealthy New Year!"

Good for you! If we’re truly going to value this very short life we’re given and our family after this experience with Covid, it’d probably be a wise decision to start posting now despite how long it takes. This company’s leadership does not align with most people’s values or happiness. Gas is over $3 a gallon. When we thought last Christmas was horrible, here’s BOA adding to yet another horrible one.

I left BofA and started a new job this week. New company has pushed back their return to office until February of next year and likely pushed again by what my new manager advised. Even after returning it will be largely hybrid.

How about the ridiculous survey they send out every year so we can tell them how to improve yet the first opportunity they get to make our lives better and our work experience a happy one they shove RTO in our faces. Here’s a thought for leadership, don’t send a survey out next year because I’m not sure you’d want to hear how the majority of your workforce really feel. Highly doubt you’ll do anything about it too.

BOA’s leadership has proven to be a joke compared to other leading companies. Even Citibank announced they’re incorporating a hybrid model for their employees.
BOA, lets send people back to work during a pandemic but also the flu season, more so the holidays. Let’s separate the vaccinated from the unvaccinated, yet preach the importance of collaboration.
Four walls, hours long in traffic and noisy people are great for collaboration and creativity.
We didn’t know differently before but we do now. We now know that we can not only work from home and do our jobs successfully but we’re happier for it even if it means working a bit more. This pandemic has given most working people a new reality of what life should be and it’s not the five day intensity of work and commute. It’s about a true work life balance. BOA will not be the one to lead the way on this innovation but in time they will have no choice but to follow suite if they want to remain competitive and promote a great place to work.

Yeah, I agree the collaboration talk is a joke. They also say that the open space office concept promotes collaboration also. Well let me tell you, before WFH, I worked in an office space concept and about 98% of the people had their ear buds in and the other 2% were trying hard not to fall asleep. There was no collaborating or even talking going on. Employees were actually annoyed and angry that they had no privacy. It's all about the money and I'm sure that sort of lay out is cheaper than the cubicle lay out. We also thought it was comical that they were promoting hard that it's a state of the art space with a nice view. Fyi..nobody cared about the view, the fancy kitchen or collaboration.

Great post. But never underestimate their desire to push people out the door intentionally so as to avoid severance. The don't care if they lose talent. They can fill any chair with adequate if not superior replacement. If they lose 10000 people and save a billion in severance payout, that's a big win in BM's eyes.

I work for team that has zero associates co-located and we're always performing at exceeds levels with our results. The idea that face-to-face water cooler discussion is necessary for success is insulting.

The only collaboration being done in office is Fantasy Football, what you did over the weekend, upcoming wedding, house remodel, purchase of random cr-p. Have done more collaborations with team WFH than in the office. Too dang loud in office with people that are there to get a paycheck and work the system that is allowed.

Everyone I collaborate with lives in another state or country. My manager has done an amazing job with his team in fostering virtual collaboration daily. Sometimes I wonder if these leaders are just plain stupid or they think we are mo--ns in believing their collaboration sell. I would much prefer their honesty in saying we are not a work from home company instead of selling this false notion we’re better when we’re connected. We certainly don’t need to see each other to connect. I would much rather walk my kids to the bus stop in the morning before I start work than drive over an hour to go to an office building that feels like a prison. This pandemic will prove which companies really embrace innovation and they will set the course for the future. BOA will lag with its set in the old way mindset. Be loyal to yourself and post out. There are plenty of companies offering way more competitive pay and remote opportunities.

Great post. I have to believe there is an ulterior motive or motives for what seems like a hurried, frantic effort to return most by year’s end to the office. Employee well being certainly doesn’t seem to be factored in.

Continue to be flabbergasted and disappointed at the lack of hybrid work arrangements. It’s just not reasonable to return to full offices and it’s not necessary for non client facing employees to be in the office consistently to collaborate.
