Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Basic premise of ExxonMobil

The basic premise of ExxonMobil is that talent is innate. This is in comparison to other companies which believe we can all improve and become better through effort and coaching. ExxonMobil picks their hot shots at year five of employment usually from a short list of schools seen as better than those attended by the commoners. After that there is no way to become a HiPo. This is also why we continue to see training, education reimbursement, etc cancelled for the masses while special unspoken of exceptions are granted to the hot shots.

“Talent” and ExxonMobil don’t go well in the same sentence. OP you must be d-mb as a rock to think the selected one by EM have any innate talent.

The basic premise of EM is to make money. But the basic fallacy is that some clever people are the reason we make money as opposed to riding the tails of a cartel (EM used to lead in the past) that controls the prices.
When it comes to picking these clever people, EM thinks that they can pick them very early - 2-5 years within the company - and they don’t need anybody else. But since you don’t really need clever people while they still make money thanks to the games of the Saudis, EM has twisted the perception into the unreality they believe in Dallas. The fallacy is proven now since the game is finally changing and the PowerPoint engineer promoted are clueless!

"The basic premise of ExxonMobil is that talent is innate". This statement is a load of bull. I'm a maintenace tech and found out that most of my operators, engineers, and supervisors barely know what they do. Maybe XOM's are full of people who know advance level of science, tech, and such, but man they lack basic knowledge. Putting out fires because an engineer's only use is attend meetings and being called up by higher management to find out why this equipment isn't turning on. Push the On button or make sure the emergency stop isn't pushed in?

Yeah we got top talent here and I'm a m*nkey with a wrench working with clowns

Looks like management trolls are at it early today!

Profit at XOM hasn't been a premise for at least a decade. Upstream especially exploration went off the rails forcing Dallas into bad deals that then cascaded through out the upstream. Problems in exploration were due to incompetent management selected through the very processes discussed in this thread.

Five years is better than the 6 months to one year of the past 15 years with no need to show any accomplishments in work efforts. Exxon and XOM elitist attitudes toward schools also didn't and isn't helping either. Most of the problems with management can be traced to these choices.

The “Basic Premise “ of ExxonMobil is profit.
If you think it is to make a bunch of wusses happy, your seriously mistaken, derelict.
