Call Fidelity. They know exactly when your retirement date takes affect. For some it is the 1st day of the following month, for others it is the next day. Call Fidelity to confirm!

The date off payroll for keeping retirement health benefits (if you qualify) is completely different thatn the date off payroll for collecting your pension using the Nov. 2020 rates. And your pension rules differ based on when you were hired, under what company you were hired, management vs. non-management.

Please read YOUR pension spd and don't base these MAJOR decisions on an anonymous message board!

Good luck to all...

"If your last day at work is in December, you are going to have a big surprise!"

My understanding is -

For folks in West (Legacy SBC) - benefits start the day after retirement, not the first day of next month. So if you retire on Dec 30th, retirement benefits start on Dec 31st.

L-T is different from L-BS, which is different for L-SBC. And the Unions folks are different too.

Legacy T is different - you have to leave in nov to get 2021 rates. if you leave in Dec - you will get 2022 rates.

Did not know this so Legacy ATT is that different from those of us who came from Ameritech - SBC- ATT?

So a VP is too helpless to garner info except from this site?
And folks wonder why T is a sh-t show.

It’s hard to believe there are really senior managers out there who aren’t clear on the deadlines or that were only planning to give a couple weeks notice after being employed by T for 25+ years!!!

if you retire in nov , you have to pick your insurance choice for dec 2021 and your choice in 2022.

Your official retirement date can be as soon as the first day of the next month following your last day at work. So if your last day is in the month of December, you do not commence your retirement until January 2022, and you lost your retiree medical. I got the same answer form our HR rep and Fidelity. Your last day at work must be no later than November 30th, so your retirement date can be anytime in December 2021 and you get to keep your medical.

If your last day at work is in December, you are going to have a big surprise!

This is not true have checked double checked and even triple checked last day on payroll is what matters so if you retire next friday Dec 3rd that is your last day on payroll and if you have signed all your paperwork etc you will get the Nov 2000 rate for your lump and you don't start paying your Medical until Jan this way. Also you get full bonus instead of 11/12 pro-rated bonus. Stop spreading misinformation about retirement.

The first post. 2 weeks notice to retirement? Never heard what you are saying. Doesn't affect me personally, but.

Look for massive layoff soon. Even with an estimated number of 10% retiring, T that will still leave around 200K employees, T needs to trim down to about 135K. That's an estimate of around 65K that will hit the bricks.

ours is about 8%, might be a few more before EOY as I know 1 or 2 not telling and will give 2 weeks notice in early December :)

We were accidentally told a few months ago on a Town Hall 5% were confirmed as leaving, but there were still MANY that were on the fence.

They are already hiring replacements, in INDIA!
