Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Backroom

Someone high up get on this and tell me why this company considers Backroom the lowest paid position and least important. And all you front end cry babies don’t comment complaining because I’m in a high volume club so I don’t get to “sit down” for a second during my day and I don’t have a single weekend off.

Receiving/claims associates are not leads/supervisors so yes they should not make the same pay. The company done the right thing for a change

To: Post ID: @2sbb+1dYaC8Oc and anyone else interested; when a manager or TL ask you to do something, very respectfully say "let me show you how this is done, or better yet, if you want the drivers seat (if front of the computer) let me talk you through it so you will know how to handle this next time. You never know what tomorrow brings, I might not be here or able to help next time."

If they say they don't have time say I will be ready when you come back but remember I have to clock out by 12:30pm, no OT.

They cannot get you for disrespect, job performance, or the like, you are trying to teach and train which is one of Mr. Sam's beliefs.

I was actually out more than twelve months with health issues one year. Believe me, when I got back DC credits, verification of manifest, record keeping, club ordering, bill paying, needless to say I got all the stories. They were lost.

Our backroom associates dont touch the dc trucks or ever rack anything. They check in vendors and unload any water and paper trucks that come in onto the dock. They also do claims. Why should they not be paid less 3 out of the 4 fulltime associates on the am shift cant even drive a forklift and have been in the position for 6+ months. But they do know how to kiss up to the store manager. Thats what matters most.

To that most recent comment: you say us backroom associates should stop doing all of that stuff for the club…… But the managers are the ones who tell everyone to do so and even they themselves come to us with that stuff. What’s your answer for that? Whom do we go to when the managers are part of the problem as well?

Whoa, whoa, first you guys have no idea what the backroom associates do for your Club. Backroom associates should not be doing anything for the FixIt app unless it applies to something you are dealing with. A forklift goes down, associate should go to their TL to have a ticket put in, after the associate has properly tagged out the forklift. Do not go to the backroom associate to do it for you, the answer is "see your TL". You need something ordered, every TL and manager in building can do that. Backroom associates stop doing the work for the associates, they need to look up a PO, tell them to use the OYI app and go to your TL. Backroom associates you cannot fix everything wrong in your Club anymore, it is time to let the merchandisers and TL's do the job they are getting paid for. Someone processes HazWaste wrong, send pictures to all TL's, Managers and CM; have the TL call the associate to back to teach how to properly process. Do not fix it for them. Also explain that could be $10,000 up fine. Do not let associates drop their trash in claims, if they do not know how to properly scan out, tell they to go to their TL. It will be tough for the first few weeks but they will catch on.

Been working back room for 2 1/2 years and still be a merchandiser. Never got the raise but I did get to train someone that got the back room raise. It’s really not that hard once u learn everything. First 4 hours it’s non stop. After that it boring the rest of the day most of the time. And I’m at a high volume club😉

Not ANYONE can be trained because we have tried! Back room associates deserve MORE then they get! We have great back room DAY associates who are the “go to” people for EVERYTHING because NO ONE can figure out how to look up issues, send in for pallet pick ups, order 99, send in service channel, “fix it” issues , just too many things to list! Our back room AM associates get interrupted ALL the time when TRYING to take breaks or lunch (when they DO get a break) so should they be on the higher pay scale? Absolutely!!! Cupcake job??? Oh H**L NO! The person who said cupcake job must be one of the Acosta reps or a lazy merchandiser that lets their coworkers do the work while they pretend they’re working!

There is nothing cupcake about working in the backroom! If u think it is a breeze, switch places for 1 day with a backroom associate and I bet your opinion will change . We do not have long term associates any longer in the backroom … they all were smart enough to take the severance package a few years back cause they knew the new format HO was handing down wouldn’t work ..

Can you drive forklift? Stand or be on your feet the entire shift? Move at a lightening fast pace and deal with unloading 3-4 dc trucks, fed ex, Pepsi, water paper, ups, pay bills, put in for pallet and bale trucks, clear dock, slot freight, submit claims for overages and shortages, process member returns, liquidation rtv’s? And do it all when you are down a body or 2 and there’s only 3 people in your area? That is just the tip of the melting iceberg my friends.

If it's not cupcake why don't you go apply for another position within the company. My guess is because you have a sweet tooth and the backroom leaves you stuffed.

All retail is non skilled labor. That's why employers are hiring part time, open availability, non benefit employees. Anybody can be trained for retail.

Because anyone can be trained to do your job. It's not a skill position and in general backroom associates are entitled lazy long term employees who the company can afford to keep at a low pay because they understand that the job is cupcake and even though you are making low wages the odds of you leaving your cupcake job are just north of 0%.
