Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Tivoli?

Anyone knows if anything will happen to Tivoli and Tivoli products?
With the many recent acquisitions (Instana, Turbonomics and the likes) and looks like Tivoli is slowly becoming obsolete. Is that another part that will be sold off which means that we will see more layoffs.

Please comment is you know anything.

All Spectrum products are very complex to configure and price. And many end users find TSM/Spectrum Protect difficult to manage, but hard to migrate away from, despite a lot of better competition in the market.

What was left of Tivoli at IBM was rebranded Spectrum. Period. I could care less about what Tivoli was 25 years ago.

Nothing cool about Netcool. Dinosaur software built by dinosaur developers.

the original tivoli was monitoring and software distribution etc, IBM then named anything management with the Tivoli label.
ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) was re-branded Tivoli Storage Manager in 1999, Then IBM renamed everything Tivoli, just like later they had to rename everything with the name "cloud" in it.

@tiv: "Tivoli became Spectrum a long while ago. Spectrum Protect, Spectrum Scale, Spectrum blah blah (etc.)."

Rubbish. Spectrum Protect used to part of Tivoli. The rest of the storage software products that they stuck under the Spectrum sub-brand (Scale, Virtualize, etc.) have no connection whatsoever with Tivoli.

they will slowly be replaced ITM will stay until instana can do what it does - or get the agents to send data to instana and then be replaced. TADDM, TBSM, ITNM, TNCM, etc who knows where they will end up - esp with lack of any development

Tivoli became Spectrum a long while ago. Spectrum Protect, Spectrum Scale, Spectrum blah blah (etc.). They are going to be moving from Storage (where ds8k and tape are) to Software segment. I know quite a few folks over there. Believe it or not Spectrum Scale (think it used to be called GPFS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPFS ) is actually really good. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon - though a couple years back Spectrum consolidated about 8 products into 3 or 4.

I'm pretty sure it was sold off to HCL a couple of years ago.

We've had nothing but problems with TEM and TBMR the last several years.
Now with kyndryl we can push IBM tools aside and use what works.
