Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Bigger problem than cuts is whom they cut

It’s amazing to me that all the people I know who were cut here, were among the best employees. I think that's how I would rate them as someone who was their colleague.

Sometimes I wonder if they have a good insight into whom they actually cut???
Because, much bigger problem than cuts is the fact that they often cut those who are great employees.

Spent whole life around americans that were proud they had zero time, constant depression and exhaustion, endless health bills, no government mandated time off, etc.etc.et. And my response to them was always "I'm sorry your american life sucks," not the expected "I'm jealous of your perfection and monomaniaical obsession with american slavery work." It's quite bizarre. Doesn't matter if they're a huge company or mom and pop. most americans were quite ill and worshipped capitalism at all costs.

They continue the cuts. The objective is to offshore and automate everything. That’s all they been harping on for months. They give no warning and always around the middle of the month. Sooner or later this will catch up to them. I would never recommend anyone take a job at this corporation.

Another area of this site someone reported a response to their exemption request was: I was granted temporary religious exemption but per letter “We intend to search for and fill our staffing needs with vaccinated individuals your employment is at will and you may be replaced at any time with or without notice” If you received a similar response give this an up vote.

I became suspicious when my supervisor told me that the company said that I should receive a raise. There was no reason given as to why. I was told not to tell my peers about the "raise." Shortly thereafter I was given tougher work assignments which impacted my productivity. Then rumours of cost cutting came down the pike. At that point the reason for the "raise" made absolute sense. I tendered my three weeks notice and declined to give HR a written email exit interview. Karma.

I Can think of 3 people you could cut and have zero impact to any productivity. They should be honest and say we are going to cut people and then let people say who they think and why. That would be a great way to approach layoffs.

WE're all employment at will. Only "country" in the world that has employment at will doctrine. There is and was NEVER any "job security". The US empire can let ya go, for NO reason, ANY reason, at ANY time ANY place. No eat a hot dog and sing yankee doody songs

The sh-t show never stops. There are many times throughout my career that I had to educate the boss.
I'm sure it's a struggle when you're laid off work but it's actually a blessing because you deserve better. Karma!

The decisions are made at a higher level than those who actually know who the best workers are. It's about numbers nothing more. They don't see people just savings to meet a given % cut they must make. Every department is asked in some capacity every year.

They cut based on cost savings, many times the high performers are also compensated higher so they cut them without realizing they’re doing the work of 2-3 people.

All just numbers on a spreadsheet..

Unfortunately, Management and “Leaders” are so caught up in their bonuses, yachts, vacation houses they dont have any clue on the competence of their employees. Case study: Director of Engineering states ‘ we follow regulations last’ after we build it, then someone else will try and figure it out lol
