Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

So bad this HR

I applied for an internal role . Then HR set up an interview two weeks with the interviewers last week after duly screening me. Then even before the interview could be held , they rejected me. When I protested saying this was a sham interview, they sheepishly said this was a mistake and I did get interviewed . But I did see that the interviewers had no interest in me . I am not inclined to file a complained with HR against HR. Any advice ?

Recruiters are all leaving to avoid RTO. Oops.

Worst feeling in the world is figuring out 5 minutes into a panel interview that you are there for show and then still waiting up to a month for a recruiter to confirm you weren’t chosen. Have been so tempted to just withdraw my application right after the interview. It’s a waste of time for everyone involved but at least you can do yourself the favor of avoiding the areas that do it constantly in the future (psst IT&V)

It’s kind of like HGTV House Hunters, where the people have already closed on the home that they “choose” in the episode. The other houses they walk through are just to show other options.

Often, when interviewing at WF, the decision has already been made. Some companies include a statement that indicates there is already a leading candidate for the position, so that other candidates can decide if they want to go into the process, knowing they don’t have a very strong chance. I wish WF would do that, but then I suppose they wouldn’t get enough candidates to please the audit team.

I've been on the other side of this. When I was hired by WF I was the individual they wanted for the job (I already knew the people on the team AND the hiring manager).

Even though the job was mine, they still had to go through their "process" and interview other "candidates".

I felt bad for the people who were being interviewed who had zero chance of getting the job, and that never sat well with me. It should have been an early warning of how things operate around here.

Had one interview with the innovation group where the external candidate they hired had already started.

Sometimes the hiring manager knows who they want to hire already and the whole posting and interview process is just part of what they have to do. Then they make the offer to who they wanted in the first place.

@2lae+1defNGT0 DE.I is a joke and everyone, even the VPs in it, know it. If merit and quality isn't the hiring basis, and one who lacks it gets hired, and the job is critical, that will cause problems for all on the team. Common sense really. But DE.I is a political arm of a company.

@2btz+1defNGT0 - most realistic portrayal . Exactly same as mine . A lot of loose and random talk about D,E,I but for many of us (even diverse candidates), getting recognized is a pipe dream. The organization is so off that they have to launch fake initiatives to show that they care. We all know they do not.

@2btz don't hold your breath for notification if they don't select you.

I one time interviewed for a very high level tech job and they never responded back, or even updated the HR system after they had chosen a candidate. The only way I found out was when I emailed the hiring manager with an inquiry a few weeks later. The hiring manager was surprised I hadn't been notified.

HR isn't calling the shots here, the hiring manager is. The hiring manager selects who gets interviewed and who moves forward through the process. HR is an administrator who ensures that all the proper documentation is in place and all of the risk-related policies are followed. It's pretty much the same at any large company.

If you aren't making your way through the screening or interviews, it means you're not the right fit for the job OR you might be a great fit but there were others stronger than you, either in actual credentials or how they presented themselves.

"You just need to network and partner with other depts on projects and then hope to be considered for any openings in their depts that may open up."

But good luck with that for those of us not in a hub. We can't apply for jobs outside our LOB, and we can't apply for jobs within our LOB.

I made it very clear during the phone screen that I was not interested in proceeding with interviews if they already had an internal candidate chosen. I work in another LOB and know the game. The recruiter said, "oh, I know what you are talking about but that is not the case here. Yet, she said there were strong internal candidates who applied. During the interview with the manager I asked if any internals applied and he said no, the recruiter must have had job roles mixed up. It is been two weeks since the interview and I have not heard a thing. Just waiting to see which person was offered the job internally so I can size them up to my skills. I will then turn down the 1x1 w/ the manager because I do not need smoke blown up my a-s.

A lot of positions posted have already been reserved for other "candidates" prior to even posting them. It's just that the hiring manager/HR are required to post these positions to give everyone an opportunity to apply to give the appearance that there was a fair amount of candidates to choose from. Unless you have been personally approached to apply for the position, your chances of getting hired for that opening is very slim. This practice is common in many big companies so don't feel offended if you did not get picked. You just need to network and partner with other depts on projects and then hope to be considered for any openings in their depts that may open up. Or it could just be your pay is above their budget.

I don't know your situation will enough to know if your complaint would go very far. But HR is a big umbrella organization, so someone who works as a recruiter would not be the same employee taking the complaint. Look at it as complaining to the ethics team about recruiting rather than looking at it as complaining to HR about HR. They are two separate entities.

Good luck in your job search!

Who says good people do not exist? Whoever is the moderator for this forum immediately noticed that there is a copycat posting with the same content as the above post under the title of ‘so good this HR’. The post also mysteriously gathered sufficient number if positive reviews raving HR and reprimanding the supposed OP and his or her posting . Well, guess what? The moderators on this forum are not fools. After letting the bad guys show up in that forum, the moderator coolly deleted their post leaving this real post survive. Kudos, moderators! BTW, I am not the OP and did not have a view until this shameful episode . Now I agree with you that HR is another henchman in this fraudulent enterprise . Let’s do our part to get these bad elements out of our bank.

Guys , please defeat the evil designs of the HR who have been caught with their pants down on this post. So obvious the fraudsters that they have even posted a similar looking post titled ‘good HR’. There are even posts accusing the OP of poor English and being from India and so on. Keep those hoodlums out of this .

This HR is so bad they cannot commit a fraud very well. Look at the way they are ( not) communicating the job title changes . We are going to change our titles yet again . Third time in two years. And then there is the TVC joke. Being changed with NO prep, nada .

Sounds like a mistake and that the interviewers weren't interested in you prior to the panel interview being set up. Not much to complain about unless it's that people make mistakes.
