Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Get ready for more work

With the latest round of controversies regarding AT&T, I can't see anybody wanting to join for the foreseeable future. Only the most desperate ones who can't get a job anywhere else and usually with good reason will apply to work here. So everybody, say goodbye to your evenings, weekends, and holidays. There'll be work to be done and guess who'll be doing it?

It's easy to pick up 75% of the complex jobs. And the other 25% takes time and experience. My value was the remaining 2% that the field & ESAC couldn't fix. At 27 years of service I RETIRED and moved out of territory. Boss tells me if I'd move 700 miles closer to SBC territory I could keep my job.
NO THANKS! Saved my money, invested wisely, never got a divorce, saved and LEFT!
It's been 25 years and I probably still remember more than some hot shot young g-n thinking she's s.m.a.r.t. What the Stink and his fold don't get is that those 2% failures add up and cost money in lost revenue. In some cases you wind up replacing good eqpt that just needs someone "experienced".
Ah, glad to be gone and bragging on this board.

I recently turned down returning back to at&t in a management position. Had a hiring manager call me cause I had certain skills in IT, routers, programming, etc.. and could hit the ground running versus having to take a year or more training someone to get new my skillset.

Actually after almost 2 years I'm glad to be away from all the Amplify(now Quantum) , LWD propaganda, etc... and of course the ridiculous pay they wanted to start me back at.

I say its time to let these young g-ns come in and think they can take this company specific technology by the horns and wrestle it to the ground with ease. All I can say is have fun... I know I did for my 25 years and left with a nice nest egg you will not get cause the company has become greedy and yet you will stand there like fools and defend them. We worked hard to build what your taking over so we earned it.

If getting people to work harder were as simple as doing layoffs, management would hire and fire all day long.

Live ain't so simple.

No problem getting folks from India - where unemployment is the biggest problem in the world according to T's mismanagement.

I'm management, and I'm staying. And my effort and hours will stay exactly where they're at. As soon as any unrealistic workloads or expectations are a thing...well, then I'm out.

40% of management is leaving before the end of the year, retiree healthcare claw-backs, so let's all watch this thing tank. Nervous yet?

Don't volunteer to give up your life-hours outside of work hours due to others' mistakes. Don't help paper over the holes created by policy and bad decisions. You can say "enough".
