Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

No diversity in BofA Technology

I know this is a sensitive topic, but let's bring it out professionally.

My group is 15 people including the manager. All of the team is from India including the manager and his manager.
I have been in the same group since 2009 and noticed that once we had one Indian manager the team all slowly after layoffs became...not diverse. I am the only one that is now the sole minority in the team.

How does diversity work? Does the bank look at the bank as a whole? Not at the org or team level?

This is a legit question and I want to know how this works. I do not have any decision making in the team and I feel out of place all the sudden despite spending years in the team.

Re: Caucasian 30 and 40 year old women

Strategy & Initiatives Manager role...look on flagscape connections and all direct reports of a female manager are women who look the same.

This is considered being diverse. Cathy bassant replacement will increase offshore hiring.

Basically Any POC counts as diversity and women and the lbgtq community.

I've been working for BAC for years. Diversity seems to ebb and flow a lot. Some groups are struggling to find resources in the US, hence they fill open positions with off shore employees.

I've seen a few contractors bring in new US help and they can't pass the background check.

I'm not in HR, so can't comment on what diversity requirements there are across the enterprise; however, some teams are naturally going to have more of one type of person due to biases. While applying internally, I found it interesting to see many teams of all Caucasian women in their 30s and 40s. Also seen many good ol boy clubs of Caucasian men. I didn't feel like I would fit in, so I didn't apply. I'm sure there are ountless other examples of other __fill_in n_the_blank__ groups and classes of people depending on line of business, geographic area, and socioeconomic demographics.

Bank is outsourced every and any job they could to save money. I too feel out of place with the team being 90%+ from India.
Nothing against them, but most of the calls I am on I don't really understand what is said. The quality is on par with the results that are deemed acceptable by bank standards.
I would say only 1% are qualified, the rest are placeholders getting by.

Many of these positions can easily be filled onshore with much more qualified individuals, but like you mentioned once mgt is involved they would hire people of their own. It's how it is and how it will continue.
