Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is it really PTO

When you are off for 5 days, but you check your emails each evening, and respond to critical ones? Tell me you have not seen this.

You may work for them, but wake up, they don't own you on your time off...what's the worst that can happen ....the company goes under if you miss an email/call/meeting....give it a rest.

Nah. I don’t do that anymore. I did it for the last 10+ years but stopped this year after they announced RTO and it feels AMAZING. The company is no longer flexible for me anymore so, I won’t be either.

I agree that's probably a normal culture for exempt employees. ANy day my manager has on "PTO" he always sends out a slew of emails at 6 AM about what to do, etc. Good thing I'm a highly compensated hourly employee. Any time i check my emails on Saturday, Sunday, etc. just have to put 10 minutes in time tracker :)

The trick is to take vacations in places with dicey cell service, and give plenty of notice that you will be unreachable. Mexico works for me. Others camp in remote areas. It’s really the only way.

Pretend Time Off. Pretty much all salaried people have done it.

exempt employees can take PTO in half day increments, so if you spend 30mon answering emails on a day off then feel free to take back 4 hours of PTO

That's been required of me since I got my first mobile device with WF. You may be on PTO, but you're still required to respond, and still required to attend team meetings. Pressure is even greater for salaried employees.

It's called KPTO (Kinda Personal Time Off)

Interesting that you are so quick to call anyone who’s opinion is different from yours a “Wells Fargo Hater.” That says more about the anger/hatred within you than it says about anyone else. Dial it back and you might become a happier person.

I once had a boss who would get angry at anyone in management who would not answer their calls on days off. But here at Wells, I think each person does their own thing. I stay away from the emails when I am out for days.

My team knows how to call me if something truly critical comes up. If there is a critical email, they can follow the OOO instructions on my email response that tells them who to contact for escalation. My manager does not check email while on PTO, nor do I.

If you are forced to do anything work related while on PTO, they owe you that day back. If you are doing it by choice, it is just that, a choice. Don’t be guilted into it. Get your affairs in order before PTO and have people that can step in when you are gone. We are not delivering babies or saving lives here. It’s just banking.

IMO, department managers need to stay in touch when on PTO. It comes with the higher pay and responsibility. Non-managers: No.

WF seems to be the worst at this practice (or the best depending on how you look at this). Salaried folks get screwed. You don’t get paid for all of the hours over 40 but if you are going to be out for a few hours you have to use PTO, which is pretend time off anyway. It’s a one way street and WF is driving the car on this one.

It's a personal choice but I wouldn't do it. A simple 'out of office' that says you have no access to email and contact your manager in an emergency seems to work for me.

Nobody is indispensable regardless of what they believe.

Yeah it’s a sick culture that’s been created that makes people think this is necessary. If a person was hourly and did this it would be a federal wage violation; salaried folks do it and it’s practically expected

No it’s not PTO. I am not going to do a lick of work while I’m on PTO but if someone else wants to, that’s their choice. They won’t be rewarded for the extra effort.
