Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

In Q3 Earnings Presentation, Honeywell shows they targeted non-minorities for layoffs.

On page 9 of the Q3 earnings presentation, Honeywell shows the "% of Ethnically / Racially Diverse in US Workforce" went from 29.4% in 2019 to 33.4% in 2020. So they are openly admitting they targeted non-minority US employees for the layoffs in 2020.

They also "Established 2021 goals for each direct CEO staff office that include an annual objective of driving diversity". So expect the targeting of non-minorities to continue in future rounds of layoffs.

Wow, im glad I no longer work there. Let them hire all the incompetent people they want to on the basis of something other than merit, i look forward to this garbage company collapsing and the shareholders losing all their money. The scheme has to end one day, it cant go on forever.

HON now practicing identity politics when it comes to hiring. Nothing new. This has been going on for many years. Why hire or promote on the basis of merit? That's neither fun nor WOKE. This is what you get when useless HR weenies call the shots.

@2zlz, well aren't we full of ourselves. I am absolutely sure that nothing you wrote applied to my colleagues and myself who got RIFed last year. And everyone I know who left with me has moved up considerably, averaging a 20-30% increase in salary, real benefits, better culture, and best of all, we don't have to work with j3rks like y0u.

These are the qualifications they used for the RIFs over the past 2 years:

  1. Efficiency: they measured who came in late and left early. When you take off at 3 to watch your obese kid play baseball its recorded
  2. Integrity: those CC cameras are there for a reason, they got all your five finger discounting of TP and stationary on video
  3. Qualifications: they checked your resume. Unfortunately the days of getting into high management with a barely passing degree in basket weaving at junior college are over. Couple that with your best high school classes of recess and lunch

and that explains the new balance in the workforce

The majority of the people. Who are in 1145 Union are Minorities. When they fire people. The majority of the people they let go. Non-minorities.

So there’s posters right, I think currently. 1145 union is about 98% minorities. Just show up to Minneapolis, and you will see I am right.

Whenever a manager makes a statement about how important race-diversity is to Honeywell, I like to ask them in what specific ways they think a person with a different skin color would improve the performance of the team.

Yes assuming anyone can do any job is beyond ridiculous. A good company hires talent without ethnicity and race being a factor. A sh-t company hires people in spite of that, just to make some stupid corporate diversity metric, which means absolutely fu-k all. Does being a minority LGBTQ make you a better engineer than caucasian John? Look at grades, work history, communication style, and make a decision. Not based on race!

Wonder what the "number" is. They must have some target other than we need to be more diverse. Likely numbers for all different levels. I have been told a couple times from hiring mangers I know that had requisitions cancelled or an offer shot down because the interview process did not have the "proper mix". It has become harder to hire folks. To the OP, likely there is some federal law/mandate that companies have to report on diversity so they put those numbers in their results. That number will be volatile, but still curious as to when Hon would be able to say we are good.

You forgot to mention minorities were disproportionately targeted for layoffs in 2019 (and probably earlier). I am sure those numbers were why top management is reacting the way they are.
