Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Re-hiring from the Laid Off Pool

Is XOM really looking at re-hiring those who got laid off? One of my previous manager who I am on neutral terms with reached out to me unofficially told me that the company cut too many people and just now realizing that and then asked me if I would have any interest in re-joining and if I wanted he could refer me in. Thought this was very odd of him asking me that. When I heard that I asked him what benefit would I gain returning back after a dry, brutal, insensitive, and inhumanity conducted lay off that got me and other folks without fault or performance related issues, he fumbled answering as to why I should join back other than the damned retirement benefit and pension sh-t.

As everyone knows, the unspoken rule at XOM is to usually not to hire previous employees unless someone hire up wants you back or the company can't find the rare skills to do the job, otherwise XOM stays away from rehiring ex employees.

I am thinking why would I want to rejoin XOM again when,

  1. The "care" is fake
  2. Performance assessment process is fake
  3. The culture makes good people transform in biting snakes in no time. Don't believe me? Look at all posts made on LI by these snakes
  4. The company touts about flexibility but punshies those that use it
  5. The long term career is gone with year on year contract
  6. Doesn't want to diversify in other areas
  7. Not even viagra can lift the stock

What others reason would you list not to go back or join new with XOM? The mgmt. post on LI indicate XOM being the best company to work on the planet when it is not.

Finally, to what point the mgmt. would stoop below standards than pulling stunts like this in rubbing those that are already hurt by company malpractice.

I’m calling BS on this. We all know that EM has still got to lose thousands more people to hit their target. Why would they go to people who were NSI’d and re-hire them ? They thought you were a poor performer and why would you go back with the “NSI” black mark against your future career ?

I’ve seen those who were part of involuntary be brought back as contractors recently. No full time employee hiring slowed right now.

People who quit or were PIPd are pretty much untouchables. To borrow a phrase from our BTC friends.

@1mke+1dss8igF you sound and smell like a greedy, arrogant, insensitive id--t who doesn't own up to any wrongdoing by the company.

OP: I am sure you may have experienced somewhat as mentioned in this post. If you experienced any of these treatments why do you even consider a thought of coming back to XOM.

I sincerely hope that we are NOT bringing back layoffs to the company as contractors. What credibility does this indicate about supervision and management? As a retained employee, I might as well resign... And then wait for the call to come back contracting!

Clueless, directionless, visionless.

If you were laid off, you would be better off coming back as a contractor if you are still inside the number of weeks given to you in your SPOSA. You agreed to pay back the difference should you be rehired in that window when you signed the SPOSA documents.

Yes - sort of true. I was released as part of the involuntary program, now back as a contractor making 3 times as much, doing the same job.

Those let go in the layoffs, not MLRP, are being considered for targeted experienced hiring. Personally, I'd only take it if I hadn't gotten an offer elsewhere and needed to bridge until finding something new. As OP states, the long term "contract" we all thought we had is gone.

LinkedIn enables them to display “winning behaviours” to the higher ups. That’s all.

Play the game!

As a supervisor I can say it could just be your supervisor was told to deliver the message but didn’t agree with it and knows you’re a good engineer who he would be happy to have back on the team. He wants to give the option but will understand if you’ve found a better opportunity. Some people are happy to return even as contractors because they haven’t found something they like as much even after being part of the involuntarily layoff.

This was most likely not real, because this is not being considered. You could have a random manager unofficially offering positions to people that HR has said no to, but more likely this is false.

Well OP is not claiming that someone has promised to hire him. He seems to be sharing the conversation with someone at XOM who presented him a potential opportunity. And the exception process is for a reason. @bsr+1dss8igF is just another confused one within XOM crowd.

To OP, why would you even consider going back given your own list of points and I think you know how to answer back to the person / acquaint you sple with.

OP here. You, @bsr+1dss8igF definitely sound a someone from the XOM mgmt. since you can clearly not read the post in its entirety, can you? For only you I have posted and exerpt from the post below. Please re-read so your brain can comprehend rather than making half read comments.

"....unofficially told me that the company cut too many people and just now realizing that and then asked me if I would have any interest in re-joining and if I wanted he could refer me in."

This post is most likely a troll, rehiring people who were let go, for any reason, within the past 2 years require L2 approval
