Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

People Talent

Ever notice the company touts our people as our most important asset. But they don’t mean you as an individual. You are no different than any other asset that needs to be managed and controlled. One of the goals of management is to commoditization and make transportable as many positions as possible. That means pay the minimum and move to other regions as needed if the cost for talent goes up.

All companies are like this but it now more obvious when a workforce shrinks and a company entrenches. Experienced hires are more familiar with this than people that have spent their career at The Company.

If you pay attention to the history of wars/battles, you'll understand the meaning of "People Talent". All generals give a pep talk just before the battle start. The audience (soldiers) die in masses in battle and the generals survive. It's been proven true over, over and over again. If you don't belong to the rank of the generals, you're dispensable.

Dust off the resume and start shopping around. Job market is hot right now. I've already had two interviews and started applying only a week ago. Companies are no longer loyal to you so why be loyal to them?
