Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why are we opening an R&D center in Israel and not here?

I guess now even the high-paying jobs are out of our reach...

To make it easier for companies like amdocs to have access to our national secrets.

To the person who wrote "ATT is a multi-national corporation, therefore, it makes sense for T to set up shop anywhere in the world where it has business partners...next question!" Have you even been an engineer for AT&T in U.S. trying to communicate and interface with foreign development partners? The time difference, communication issues via conference call or video conference is not an optimal environment and the proof is in the delivery...Will never learn

R&D died when AT&T divested Bell Labs and it became Lucent Technologies. All the other versions of “labs” at the baby Bells and mama Bell were and are just imitations. Google, Amazon, MIT, Stanford, Apple are where the real R&D happens. T is doing this to make some of the owners/large investors happy.

T can’t pay Phd’s in US. Wonder what type of research they will do. AT&T connect is an app developed there. There is nothing ground breaking research about it.

AT&T has had numerous teams in Israel for years. How is opening a new office news to anyone here?

Amdocs is there also but I do not think the R&D center is via Amdocs. If it is God help us all. If you have ever worked with Amdocs....Nice folks but always way over budget and never on-time.

why fret about all this. Artificial Intelligence will have most white collar desk jobs in the near future and we will all be on welfare= universal basic income. you will really be free then. dont' believe me google it. rich will get richer. poor will still be poor. and you will be on obamacare.

AT&T established its Israeli R&D center in 2007 following the acquisition of the Israeli start-up Interwise, which specialized in conference solutions for organizations. Global telecommunications giant AT&T has announced the opening of a new R&D center in Tel Aviv’s ToHA Tower, expanding on the already existing R&D center in Airport City.

Elliott group is owned by Paul Singer. They are a pro Israel company (Paul Singer is Jewish). One of the reasons they let Randall off the hook(remember they were putting pressure on him to sell DTV and Time Warner), was him agreeing to hire many people in Israel for development efforts for AT&T. Hence why we are hiring many people in Israel. They are considered employees even if they make tons less than Americans.

The company has had business interest in Israel for several years. This is not new. They do own a software development company there. They created AT&T Connect, Q, others.

Because Americans are lazy, and just sit on layoff.com to complain about how much they hate their job instead of looking for another like an adult.

Because T cannot get reliable electricity that is on for 24 hours a day in India!

Companies have zero loyalty to their employees anymore. Why should we have any loyalty to them? Start getting your resume out there if you want to move up. AT&T certainly won't care if we all quit.
