Until about 2016, I could greatly enjoy my job and be proud I work for EM. Yes, all the deep flaws were there but there was room for honest hardworking technical people. After that EM has gradually lost any respect for the people who actually work; the managerial class has declared war on regular workers. The last two years have been abysmal; it’s as if each time a big problem needs to be solved the MC has a meeting on the topic “How can we f__k this up in the worst way possible ?” And not just for the employees, but the entire company.
So more money is OK, but wants to work on a sinking ship ?

“Not all of us are miserable here”.

True. The parasites in high positions or on their way to high positions are having a great time. The most arrogant and aggressive ones are like fish in water, they find the perfect niche in the new EM, the hunger Games ExxonMobil.

First off, I would say the maturity issue falls on the person who claims it doesn't matter what job they have, they will hate it. All I was trying to say is that if you are miserable at Exxon (of course it isn't everyone), then extra money probably isn't going to make you feel much better. You probably want things like more meaningful work, appreciation, less workload, better career development/progression, transfers to different projects, less HR-forced cooperation in corporate BS like self-evaluation and goals and D&I seminars and all of the other things that make corporate life particularly soul-sucking.

Money is great. Getting to go on nice vacations and spoil your family is a fun time. But you can actually enjoy what you do AND make enough money to enjoy all of your time spent outside of work.

I hate working period. Doesn’t matter what job I have, I will hate it. So a job is just a job to me. Once I’m finished with work for the day, I don’t take it home with me and turn into a sh---y person, I have the maturity of an adult and live my life happy. The money fuels the things I find pleasurable in life, such as taking vacations across the globe with my family, without the added stress of wondering if I can afford it, staying in a sketchy area, not getting to do every experience I want due to low funds, etc.

If you’re not able to separate a job from being an as----e then you need to grow up.

Not all of us are miserable here. What kind of blanket statement is that. Are you that arrogant that you think everyone feels the same way about working here as you?

That whole "job is a job" thing is nonsense. Sure, you can stumble through life working a job you hate but you add a lot of unnecessary suffering to existing as a human. More money makes a sh---y, dead-end job only slightly more palatable. Getting out to do something you enjoy more is worth way more than what they could pay you to stay.

I don't give a sh-t about money if it makes me an as----e to my friends and family. Exxon is actually pretty great at that.

A job is a job. As long as I’m paid appropriately for it, I won’t be miserable.
