Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Why are u still at ibm

If you are still at ibm then just enjoy it because there are reasons keeping you there that have nothing to do with technical talent

In Austin the best of the best of ibm are now at amd, aws, nvidia ,Apple ,…. The only ones left are the ones that either can’t find jobs, scared of the unknown or staying for political reasons or because they will retire in a few months

Amd is hiring like crazy and some of the best ibmers are there , unfortunately there is little talent left at ibm power to fill the open reqs so that pipeline is closed

Shows how far down ibm has fallen

“ Good. Get outta here you boomer. Your outdated skills aren't relevant to today's world anyways.”

Isn’t IBM only playing in that ‘outdated skills” world anyway? IBM is definitely way behind the Big Boys of the technology and unable to catch up.

It seems to me you are the one who should not be working at IBM, your skills would be better used somewhere else.

I won’t be at IBM too much longer that is for sure… The IBM vax dashboard reports that I am not vaccinated even though I did the TrustASSure thing back in Sept so I can go to some IBM offices multiple times.

Looks to me IBM has already decided which employees they will eliminate through this TrustASSure process. Time to look for a new job! I wish all good luck. I would be interested to hear from other IBMers if they have been reported as COMPLIANT in the dashboard or not.

Power for the most part has been abandoned. YES IBM will keep large enterprise footprints to service the large ISV’s in the cloud, and Small AI footprints to deploy locally, but that’s it. Everything else will go Intel. WHY you ask??? Because Power is still one of the best technologies out there, BUT Intel is good enough in 90% of the situations. Unless you need 99.9999 % reliability, extra large memory, or just scalding performance Intel gets it done for 1/2 price, and is serviced at commodity rates (both development and maintenance) IBM ignored Power until the customer base just moved away. Ask yourself how did that LINUX on Power play out? There is a reason Power is shrinking by 25%, and it’s not business/development cycle. It’s very poor management decisions with zero input of the competition.

I am still at IBM because I am getting old and I get paid to do absolutely NOTHING. I sometimes feel like I am the guy in Office Space that was laid off, nobody told him and he is still showing up at work because they forgot to stop his paycheck!

This IBM company is a total joke, but I love it!

You forgot .., family / personal limitations. Wife needs to be on board with move when you have toddlers.

Many departments have the best WLB with little expectations on performance as IBM has no incentives and promoters mediocrity.
