Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

promoting expensive employee junk

I got this company promoting cr-p in the mail yesterday. A baseball cap, blue tooth speaker, t-shirt, blanket, and a large sign for me to put on my lawn promoting fiber. The problem here is how much money we spend promoting through employees. I'm not disgruntled but I never felt valued. After how many techs were let go in the last 12 years who's going to promote anything for this company? The only incentive is if you get referrals. The inside sales people are going to steal your referral anyway.
Wouldn't a better concession price in the cost of fiber to your house be a better incentive? Maybe 300mb speed be free for 2 years or something that if you prove you're advertising for "T"? Sorry, had to vent. Can't fix stupid.

Maybe a little off point, but I remember our “Recognition program” our org had. We’d have this big call twice a year. Top performers got a reward. I got one. For solving a multi million dollar billing issue. Our reward? An orange highlighter!

"huge crate of stuff of JUNK from T - every single SPD in paper format. "

PLEASE make it stop! I retired earlier this year. I checked the paperless option, but I received the "crate" anyway (actually, just a box, LOL), and I continue to receive huge envelopes of booklets once or twice a week. I logged in and checked paperless again, but they keep coming. Whenever I enroll in paperless, it just takes me to a Survey Monkey page. (Very professional, AT&T.) I fill out the "survey" with my name and address, but obviously, it goes nowhere.

Seriously, does anyone here know the trick to make it stop? This is a waste of the company's money and my time.

What focus group initiative is leadership running that indicates employees want more flair?

Keep you trinkets.
Keep your donuts.
I don't want your safety breakfasts.
Nor your pizza.
You are the epitome on insincerity.
Not for a second will I think I am any more than a tool to you that you will get rid of at the first opportunity.
I am not a sales person. A PR person. A lawyer.
Nor will I lie to a customer to fix your f ups.
When they beotch about the company, I won't argue.
Rather fix their issue and show some empathy.

You have zero shats to give what I think. Keep your surveys.
Shove your pep rallys, "You Matter" BS and rah rah emails.
You won't fool some of us.
I'm here to make as much $$$ in as short of time as possible.
8 for 8. 14 for 14.
My choice.
I'm here to make money, not socialize, make friends, or join some social justice group.
34 years in, it seems to be a winning strategy.

True Event:

Back in the old days before the Ratty and Stink, our campus would have an annual "Diversity Day". The company was not cheap. They would have a caterer come in an serve the 1500 people in the complex lunch, have entertainment, and booths setup by various organizations around town and give out "Diversity T-Shirts" and other promotional materials. Well run and not cheap event. Before the days of Ratty and Stink and $150B debt.

A "diverse" colleague of mine had the master keys to the campus. We were both "car" guys and often discussed our love of cars.

After eating out lunch and walking around the event, he said to follow him. We walk into one of the building and he unlocks one of the storage rooms. There are Diversity T-shirts in boxes stacked to the ceiling. Extras that were ordered by the usual incompetence.

He opened a box and began handing me XXL Diversity T-Shirts, the largest size they had. I asked what gives? He said they make excellent car cleaning rags! This was before the days of Micro-fiber towels.

They were indeed great T promotional items! Used them for years!

My old company gave us stuff. Mostly leftovers from conferences. but I could wear the t-shirt when doing yard work or whatever if they wanted the promotion.

T wants you to buy the same cr-p. No thanks.

I’ll never forget the excitement over U-Verse! I did the turn up on the VRAD in my neighborhood. Took me a year of digging through the red tape to uncover why my address wasn’t green! I kept making phone calls until my boss told me to STOP calling people!! UNREAL….finally got a 2ND level to check into it!!! They can sc--w anything up….would never recommend a ATT product to anyone I like!!

Most aggravating thing I have received in the mail in awhile. My subdivision has had fiber for 12+ years. They never marketed the product or could get the addresses inventoried in to our systems correctly letting Comcast get most of the market share. Then two years ago MetroNet started over building the subdivision with fiber after our company decided there was no money in this product picking up remaining customers. Now all the sudden like we are focused on fiber again. And we wonder why the stock is one of the only stocks to underperform during the pandemic.

When you retire, make sure you check off "paperless" option on HR - otherwise you will get a huge crate of stuff of JUNK from T - every single SPD in paper format.

It gives the UPS delivery guy a hernia, and you won't be able to lift it to put it out in the recycle bin.

I guess I am unwanted, as the only thing I receive from T are unwanted SPAM calls, and the greetings from the Stink!

In my organization, I hear the folks in India get all kinds of good stuff. Nothin' for us in the US.

Gee, you mean branded free stuff like plastic frisbees, lapel pins, once a decade T-shirts, etc doesn't excite you into promoting T? You mean to tell me that after all the layoffs, horrible .0xxx% merit raises, benefit cuts, horrible leadership, inept front-line managers, and all the "wokeness" and "privilege" bulls**t, and worthless required training, you AREN'T jumping up and down to help promote T???!!

Dude what is wrong with you?

For some reason the company thinks we all get excited by trinkets. I give all of those things away.
Other companies do really cool stuff for their employees. AT&T is stuck in the 90’s just like the leadership.
