Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Vax claim rejected

My manager told me to take the shot or I’ll be laid off. How much do I push the issue? I have two small kids at home. You all are my sole source or advice. Help

The rumor your manager is referring to is an update on our policy that will say if a core part of your job is customer visits (aka field sales) you must be. Vaccinated

You have much bigger issues if this site is your sole source of advice.

Apply logic and decision making to your situation and make a decision.

What are your reasons for not getting the vaccinations? If you have a history of severe reactions to vaccinations, or are allergic to the ingredients of this vaccination, then don't get it and request a medical exemption. If you have some sincerely held religious objection, request that exemption. From your post, I'm guessing you don't have either since you didn't even mention trying to request an exemption. Is it a fear of side effects or long term issues? Do your own research. This is what I found and used to make my decision, based on the fact that millions of people have already gotten this vaccination before me more than six weeks ago.

Serious side effects that could cause a long-term health problem are extremely unlikely following any vaccination. Decades of vaccine monitoring has historically shown that side effects generally happen within six weeks of receiving a vaccine dose.

How badly do you need this job? How marketable are you and how quickly can you find a new job? If you're the sole income for your family, and you're not highly marketable, then get the shots and move on. If you're not the sole income, or you are marketable, get the shot and stay or don't and find a new job.

I would guess, based on the what's occurred so far, that since this disease has spread worldwide and the world is nowhere near vaccinated enough or people have had it and recovered to make it possible to eradicate this virus, that it's going to keep mutating and become like the flu and we're going to need annual or bi-annual shots every year. Once it gets to that point, all the mandates will be dropped just like there's no mandate on flu shots. Get it and wait on the mandates to go away and don't get the booster shots if you don't want it. Why fight it?

My doc said some recent blood tests showed I didn't have enough coverage for Hepatitis B even though I've been vaccinated for it back in the mid '90's, so I'm getting it again. For all those saying the COVID vaccination isn't effective, we have to get boosters, yada, yada, yada, how many other vaccinations require boosters or re-vaccination? Flu shots, obviously. Tetanus shots are every 10 yrs. Pneumovax is every 5 yrs beginning at age 50. I'm not a physician and I can name 3.

Your manager has no say in the process or decision. Talking to him won’t help. Take what he tells you for what it is: advice. Nothing more.

Sounds like your manager was just speaking freely without malice. We are putting people in horrible situations. We do this all the time - like workload, etc. - but this is in a category by itself.

You're not going to get sympathetic advice here. But try to look for another job if it's that important to you. That's all you can do.

Just take it but buy a bunch of life insurance for the kids in case the vax shortens your life span (directly or indirectly). On the bright side, vax doesn't work so maybe it's just like salt and water.

Managers can't tell employees anything of that nature, at least not in that form. If your boss told you that, it's ethically lame. So I hope you're just trolling. If you're not, talk to ER. But anyway, don't act like this is a surprise.
