Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bankruptcy

I retired over a year ago and I'm just sharing my observation/recollection.

So, Thinking back I recall making my decision to retire. It was during a McElfresh town hall. He spoke about how many companies that were at one time at the top and yet ended up filing bankruptcy!

It was a very disturbing call and for some reason I felt he was somehow (with out violating insider trading rules) warning the employees of a meltdown in progress!

As time goes on I applaud Jeff, hopefully I'm wrong!

ATT debt to equity ratio is 85.86. So we owe more than we are worth(equity)

Wow what a change in the P/E ratio. It must be relalted to the split-up.
AT&T PE Ratio:

  1. 50 for Dec. 3, 2021

To get to a more normal P/E ratio, the stock would have to drop to about $2.30 a share.
I don't think that ATT is comparable to the likes of Amazon and Apple. Not in the same class.
However :
AT&T Price to Book Value:

  1. 023 for Dec. 3, 2021

"AT&T should declare bankruptcy and increase the dividend. Show some love to investors who have taken a beating. "

It is not that simple. Usually in a bankruptcy the stock shares become worthless. LOok at the toatal debt and the book value. The creditors have to be paid first. I will leave it to the accountants and MBAs on here to clarify that.

The government should take over ATT and provide single payer wifi to the nation.

If T ever went into bankruptcy its debt is so large it would cause a major credit market dislocation. Neither the Federal Reserve nor the US Government would ever allow that to happen, so no matter how badly Stankey and his clowns fu-k up they're immune to the consequences.

So McElfresh said success needs to be earned every day. You dont just continue to be successful because you are now. And cited companies that are no longer in business but were once successful as an example.

OP decides this is horrifying somehow.
He or She thinks its secret code and mcelfresh is trying to tell us the company is going to implode. Cause the alternative is worse. Having to work to be successful.

I assume you folks on the T bankruptcy bandwagon - which is, again, not an option for such a profitable company - are the same bozos who talk about "clawing back" Randall and John compensation.

OP is not talking about understanding corporate finance or advocating for Bankruptcy.

Op is recalling a disturbing conference call where McElfresh talked about AT&T's situation and companies that filed bankruptcy that were at one time on top.

At first I was against. Now I'm all for it, debt disappears into thin air. Start fresh with zero debt. I know Sears declared bankruptcy, they were still meeting payroll and paying their bills. Why not T? We are every bit deserving as Sears!

OP doesn't understand corporate finance. You can't just file bankruptcy to rid debt, if you have the revenues to make the payments. Every company that takes bankruptcy is so under water they can't make payroll.

Why do a lot of people post here in favor of T bankrupcy? You do realize your pension would be history if Toxic T goes bankrupt?

I am like the Rat, Stink, Poopin' Fresh and the BoD - I want my $ first!

ATT can’t just go ahead on its own and decide to file for bankruptcy thereby leaving creditors receiving possibly as little as 10cents on the dollar from Ts debt. A judge has to decide on whether or not T qualifies for bankruptcy. It’s no longer that easy to qualify. Has T done everything it could do to relieve debt, NO! It has many assets it could sell off to reduce debt. It’s currently working on reducing the debt load, but clearly had more it can do. If it sells off more business units and becomes solely a mobility company and is still struggling with debt, then possibly it could be approved for bankruptcy. But, it still needs to do everything it can before getting approval.

"AT&T makes too much money to file for bankruptcy. And they have too many paying customers."

That's a very vague statement! Too much money? how about too many bills? Too many paying customers? Less income than bills = loss at some point.

Hello?
