Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Toxic coworkers

There is this coworker of mine who challenges me all the time because we both wanted to rise up on top in our big group. Now we seem to be best enemies and in one occasion, he said "You should be PIPed!" right to my face. I don't want to go to HR because nothing good comes out of reaching out to HR. What should I do?

Go to HR. That is their job. If people can’t be professional and play by the rules then they need to be reprimanded.

I have encountered such a sh-----d. He bluffed his way into Management then at every opportunity dropped in ranking everyone around him that he saw as a threat.

Karma has not caught up with sh-----d yet, but many current and former employees still hope it will.

Take notes, watch closely, wait and then enjoy when karma hits them.

Nothing you can do, OP. Your toxic coworker is probably a HiPo and knows well that he/she has all the rights in this company and you must be a regular, un-sponsored employee, so your only right is to work hard until you’re PIPed.
This is the natural order in this company. Highly agressive, even sociopathic behavior is hailed as leadership; minding your work is unacceptable weakness.
Look somewhere else for employment.

@qdd That sounds backwards to me. I actually feel bad for the people who don’t make friends with coworkers. The main reason work hasn’t been too bad for the past 10 years, despite the obvious decline with the company (opportunities, benefits, management decisions, etc), is because of all the people at work I have positive relationships with. I can’t imagine how you would last here if you are spending every day with people you don’t care to be around.

Never make friends at work. Difference between outside life and work life

Keep your enemies closer! I would lay low and once you have dirt on your coworker, use it to your advantage. Technology is your friend, record and use it to advance your career.

@OP Sounds to me like you’re both made for each other.

You sound like a “toxic” wu-s bu-t kissing back stabber who can’t handle it when someone else is just like you. Go to HR, cry about it, and tell them you need a safe space. Tell HR that the other person is “bullying” you because you are a minority, woman, LGBTQIR goat lover or that you “identify” as one of the above.

HR only interest is to protect the company and NOT employees.
You can always try changing groups. Exxon is a big company.
