What destroys morale the most here?

It is noticeable that morale has never been worse. Perhaps these last layoffs were an eye opener to what kind of company this is?

first time back here in over a year, boy this sounds really bad, share price is up with oil rise. Of course all they ever really care about is that and getting their options, Self serving as ever behind those sanctamonious smiles

When the company is enamored with social engineering rather than business growth, when all the profit goes to share buybacks and the dividend rather than investing in growth and employees, when avenues for career growth have disappeared, when it's perceived that all the promotions are based on favoritism rather than performance. The first sign of the moral decay is bloating of non-essential functions, coupled with extensive use of 'business consultants'. Then you start watching the continuous trickle of good people quietly choosing to leave (The PR machine will characterize this as 'normal attrition'). The next sign is wanton layoffs. Then increasing outsourcing of those previously bloated peripheral activities (HR was first, IT and CTC will be next). All this coupled with constant reorganizations, study teams, and continuous downsizing. This has been the ongoing choreography of the MW era.

Before the transformation, there was ITC and embedded IT. Traditionally, embedded IT people felt a lot closer to the business and that they were making a difference. The business people did not see the embedded IT people as just IT, but part of the team. Now, everyone is in the new ITC called CTC, everyone is part of the digital platform billing model and it sucks. We're too far away from the actual work and doing things that add no value because someone said it was a product. All of this ki--s morale.

We'll see if MW does any more posts or speeches saying the pandemic has been tough and we are all kept apart. When we get back to the office all will be better again.

For me I agree with others. IT employees are not valued at all by upper management. They use IT as the whipping function to take out whatever issues they have on. Management in general are out of touch and only care about the dividend and the shareholders.

There is this person in my BU, expat no less from a BU that produces lotsa LNG, having the most preposterous title of "diversity and talent pipeline manager." When the company does handouts to untalented individuals with these woke, cheesy jobs that add zero value to the bottom line, it alienates the rest of the workforce.

Diversity initiatives. Internal placements look for "diversity (i.e anglo celtic Women)," but the selection panels have catty women managers and pick candidates that subscribe to their perverted world view. True diversity of talent is ignored for internal placements. Stock price is still high though - hope the farce ends soon before that suffers.

With the ever enlarging number of managers (from chapter leads to asset class advisors, from project managers to strum wankes and epic blow fish celebrators, from fellows to sorority groups, from social network leaders to diversity champions and more and more) individual contributors or anyone else expected to do a little actual work is simply labeled big chump. What's not to like?

If you're not a high pot or management relative (or the favored demographic), you will stagnate in your career. Petrotechs not in the management pipeline are really susceptible to this. Watch all those named above zoom past you while you stay at the same pay grade and same job until you see the light and decide to quit.

The big issue is upper management acts like the employees are a bunch of bell ends. If they would respect the employees and not treat us like things you can use up just throw away to increase the dividend things might be better. Its definitely not the issue big man was talking about entitlement. If anything management is the entitled ones believing they own the employees. Sorry that got settled years ago.

If you work in IT the morale is especially bad. With management always going after IT and the new bad working model the morale is a low as its ever been. IT takes the brunt of the layoffs and business anger. Be careful with all the outsourcing as the quality is not good.

Definitely the overly entitled employees that think Chevron is a welfare program. Chevron is a company not your mommy. You are paid to generate more value for the company than your cost to the company. Chevron is a great company to work for. If you hate working there so much then go find another company to work for.

Stagnation. In job assignment,, in opportunities, in training, and in salary. Growth brings the excitement of new opportunities for professional and personal expansion, the ability to travel, and to be part of something big. This transformation is sucking the well dry with no obvious light at the end of the tunnel. Why?

It's not a meritocracy! You will never be happy if you imagine it is. Every company in the world runs on politics. You have to work very hard at it. Make strategic alliances. Keep enemies close. Stab people in the back. Cozy up to all managers and influencers. It makes all the difference in the world. That's just how life is, man.

Feeling unheard by management, or that contributions are undervalued (not necessarily monetarily). Being patronized or not trusted to understand nuance, or having concerns dismissed or ignored. Seeing people get away with (or even get ahead because of) bad behavior, and seeing people be penalized for demonstrating values ostensibly promoted by management. Generally, the feeling that the workplace is not a meritocracy, and that effort is neither recognized nor rewarded.

The layoff, being over worked and underappreciated. IT especially is deemed as sc-m in spite without us Chevron would run on pen and paper.

Entitled employees think they deserve to work 30 minutes per day and a million dollar retirement.
They should realize that they are privileged to work at Chevron, and they need to man up.
