Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Any other company that uses Webex by Cisco besides Cisco itself?

I'm aware that CNN and the Jimmy Kimmel show use Webex, but I personally do not know any other company that uses it. Is there any, especially in the tech industry?

This couldn't be more of a lie... It was a stunt to advertise Webex, while in reality it is CMS (Cisco Meeting Server), an on-prem video solution that Cisco added to their portfolio when they bought Acano (UK company) and then ki---d it!

The real issue here is that everything is called "webex", but in reality there are multiple webex'es being developed.
Cisco has been pouring money year after year on "webex teams" and it never gets to be good enough to replace the old webex (webex meetings), until they decided to bundle the 2 together in the same app.
In the last couple years, they keep renaming and revamping the "webex teams" to try to sell it, but a lot of effort is wasted in changing the UI, icons, etc instead of really addressing the real issues.

It got so bad I decided to leave some time ago (UK based)! And with me, a lot of other people have left too...
The leadership keeps changing direction and have little clue on how to run it -- unfortunately.
Webex had some much potential, and now is just playing catch up due to bad decisions on top of bad decisions.

Apple refuses to use Zoom internally due to the security issues it presents. Apple has publicly stated that they only will allow Webex for use by employees, for that reason. All of the United Nations, NASA, Department of Defense use Webex.

Look at your CPU when backgrounds are enabled on Webex. Better have a brand new laptop if you want it to work.

Cisco employees are spoiled by Webex at Cisco, because they have full admin accounts and all its features. Most of them don't even realize that Webex users at other companies rarely have all the features/capabilities they do.

I worked for a bank/financial company who used Webex. Basically executive assistants for leaders had the ability to schedule meetings and invite external users. As reg employees, we mostly used our "personal rooms" for ad hoc meetings and managers/project managers created recurring meetings or had the executive assistants schedule them.

Most financial advisers I've talked to have both Zoom and Webex so that they can create virtual meetings w/ customers based on the product they want to use.

I absolutely hate Zoom on a Mac. It had so many vulnerabilities, was just as unintuitive to use as Webex, and had it's own issues that make it no better than Webex. I worked at another company in the financial industry, this time a payment processing company instead of banking or investments, and they used Zoom. Maybe it was just my previous exposure to Webex as an admin, but Zoom was difficult for me to use because the UI at that time was terrible. And it was the version that basically ran a web server on your Mac that was listening for upgrades that could be exploited to let anyone control your Mac.

My biggest complaints about Webex are the lack of clear install instructions for computer illiterate users, and no prompt for uninstalling if a user needs to use Webex as a one-time meeting, say with a support tech or sales person, and the UI buttons being poorly positioned and unable to move them. Why Cisco's internal Webex team, or team leadership, won't listen to Cisco's own employees about how bad the UI button placement is and fix it, I don't know. Cisco likes to say they're "eating their own dog food" or classing it up by saying "drinking our own champaign", so they're their own biggest user and aren't listening to their own largest user base.

The amount of disk space wasted by keeping older versions of Webex installed as Webex clusters are upgraded is ridiculous. Why not have the new client be backwards compatible w/ older versions and remove the previous version(s) that have been left behind. When I get rid of my Mac every 3 yrs to replace it with a new one, it's amazing to see just how many versions of Webex I have installed over that time and the last time they were used.

Adding Slido in was nice, and adding background noise suppression and blurred/virtual backgrounds is great--but you took so long to do that you were playing catch up with the industry, not leading--but you need to listen to what your users want most.

We have WebEx but Zoom and Teams are used a lot more often. WebEx is being decommissioned.
