Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2022 Strikes

As a worker in IT I always resented scab training. This would be a good year for strikes. How long will programmers be willing to work 60hr weeks out of state climbing poles before they leave for a better job? Can H1Bs and offshore run the whole IT infrastructure without employees?
How will Stankey react without "all these mouths to feed"?
It would be great to see the system of worker exploitation break down.

The give backs our President agreed to approx 25 hrs ago for “ card check” were beyond absurd that hurt many existing members while doing little to help the union. The only thing the union has going for it these days is whatever is guaranteed in our CBA. They REALLY came up flat and rolled over big time pushing back against the jab mandates

CWA is a worthless union. For 25+ years they've witnessed multiple waves of layoffs, employee benefits plundered by leadership, intellectual property being outsourced to third world countries, and jobs reallocated to any rube with a green card. The CWA did nothing to protect or help the employees, all the while collecting regular dues from union members each payday, which I was bullied to pay as an occupational employee back in the day even though I lived in a right to work state. CWA is like a racket where you pay protection money for, well, no protection at all.

Strikes? For that you have to have a real union, not a fake pro-management union like the CWA.

Programmers climbing poles?
hahahahahahahahha
Managers go out 4 in a Focus, drive around all day and don't fix sh-t.

Some "managers" want to see how fiber circuits work in the central office, but once they find out that there is not an elevator from the first floor to the basement cable vault, they are gone.

that is why att keeps so many employees so they can be bargaining chips against the unions.

so nice to have a normal job and sanity and have the ability to retire when I want to.

Congrats on reaching an early negotiation but this is the year of the worker. Hope they negotiated hard for you.
Workers have more bargaining power then any time in my life.

Our contract is set to expire in April and the union just agreed to a tentative agreement basically extending our contract four more years, and if the members ratify it by the end of the month we get a $500.00 bonus! These are great times to be alive! ! I’m legacy T and I believe Midwest and some Mobility got the same offer. FWIW I can’t recall ever reaching a tentative agreement on time let alone three months early

Union won't strike because they don't want to dip in to the hundreds of millions in the strike fund. In the 80's, I went on strike for weeks. No strike fund then.
Now it's a day, or 2. what a joke.
The union cares not. The highr ups still pull in $90K a year working from their lake homes. But don't contact them...follow the chain of command.
No way they'll tap that strike fund. I was a tech for 40 years, a steward, an officer. I know what goes on.
The company lawyers and the union lackeys pretend to have a contemptuous relationship. Yet dine and drink together at the same fancy restaurant after the days "tough" negotiations. All on our dime. Both laugh at us.
Todays union give zero shats about you as long as you pay dues.

The union was at peak power in the 80s.

A strike today would cause minimal damage to T. I wonder if it would even make the evening news.

The company would then move to use contractors for residential installs, like Comcast does for example. Many union Mobility jobs can also be replaced by contractors, like at TMO. That would save the company $$$

In short, T can cause the union with a world of pain, if it so desires. That's why they don't want to strike, unless they absolutely have to

Someone is actually trying to guilt OP into being a bootlicker for corporate leadership. Non union employees did not choose to be "managers". They dont even manage employees. Given the choice IT FTEs would probably choose to unionize now after rebadgings and offshoring.
We identify more with union workers rather than corporate talking heads.

Stink may not care about emoyees but all work would grind to a halt. Customers will notice and eventually shareholders.
Stink will notice then.

You are a manager representing corporate leadership. This is your attitude for a temporary request to step up and support company initiatives? GTFO!

Are there any large contracts up for renewal in 2022 ?

You actually think the Stink cares if any IT system works? GTFOH - Stink has proven he don't care about anything except lining his pockets.

He brings in H1B buy the plane loads and for the rest sends the work to Accenture, Tech M, or IBM to be housed in Mumbai and the rebadging gives the Stink a free way to fire employees for free. Well that and the jab.

The Stink don't care about any strikes. It saves the Stink $ and that gives him more to line his pockets. He don't care what upheaval occurs. If it pi$$es off US based employees, the better the Stink likes it as it makes Toxic T even more Toxic and more people leave - again for free!
