Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

We need to go fully remote

Why can’t Chevron delay indefinitely like other big companies such as Apple and Expedia? They need to just cut everyone out of their misery and try to retain talent by being going fully remote. Imagine what a great morale booster for their team if they would just do the obvious necessity for 2022… it’s been clearly proven business can move forward fully remote.

Well said, @czx+1ew2lWx8.

Yeah, and all those people working on the rigs and platforms get every two weeks off. F'ing deadbeats, they should be working 28 days on / 2 days off.

@5rdq, yea a lot of people want to get more pay for less work, unlimited vacation and free babysitters from the tax payers. why stop at being able to pretend like you're working from home?

A lot of people have to work in the fields/platforms/rigs. I struggle to get onboard with the entitled mindset that you never need go to the office. I support operations and drilling and get a lot of benefit with face time with these people.

If you don’t like hybrid schedule, quit. There’s plenty of other qualified and less entitled people that will do your job.

Our group has been forced to come in, the two buildings are empty. At lunch time the tables are full of building personnel/maintenance. Very few Chevron employees. If people want to come in they can but it's pretty apparent the majority wants WFH.

Fully remote - yes! No commute, full night's sleep, drawing two paychecks, I may get to retire at 45!

Bottom-line the offices have been open this whole time and the badged in population has cracked more than 10-15% at any given time.

If your home lives are so miserable that you can't stand to WFH then by all means go on in. NO ONE IS STOPPING YOU.

Some of us have our own private home offices with sit-stand desks, docking stations etc....and are more productive at home as opposed to sitting elbow to elbow in a miserable open-concept environment.

Be careful what you ask for. Remember all the people who 'disappeared' last year, got a final text or phone call and no one else knew about it until they were no longer in the Company email directory? WFH will enable MW and his HR cronies to brazenly hire and promote their friends and family members, while 'discreetly' letting troublemakers and malcontents (i.e., those who disagree) go. The first sign of this 'new staffing strategy' will be when you are told, 'oh, you don't have to come to the office all the time - just come by once every week or two to see what's going on'.

the C-suite just is insisting on in-person adulation because they don't get enough from their families at home. Also, they don't relate to the working level's issues of coming into the office and managing commutes, pick up times, etc. because they have enough $$$$$$$ to afford a stay at home spouse / pay other people to take care of those things

How about if the layabouts in the Energy Transition Department calculate how many tons of carbon we could save annually by WFH and eliminating commuting?

411 g per mile
40 miles per day
18 days per month
12 months per year
5000 Houston employees

  1. 8 million kg

18,000 metric tons co2
Equivalent to 20 million pounds of coal burned

If Chevron can demand anything it wants then I guess they are good to make a vaccine and mask mandate. People fight that saying they don't have the right to do that but everything else is fair game. Hypocrisy?

Thr attitudes of some desperately supporting a company that doesn't care one bit about you and will abuse or lay you off in a heart beat is always amazing. These people support "freedom" (but want to truly go back to pre 1860s mentality where everyone is owned by their company). The company gets 40 hours of our time (unless they want to pay extra). They do not deserve anything else. Getting commute time back is getting personal time back that the company never was entitled to to begin with. Start supporting true freedom where people get the time they should with family.

@ynm. Chevron will demand whatever it wants. You know were the door is. If not, just ask. Most of us were hired pre-pandemic, so this extra time and extra cost you are describing is the normal under which you agreed to work on. You should see it as a "savings" during a 2 year period that you obtained. A counter argument can be made by the company: if you continue working from home, they could lower salaries as people are saving time (hours of "working/commuting") and money on their cars maintenance, fuel etc. you cant have the cake and eat it too. Some want to eat the cake while napping at home while "working"...you probably one of those.

What's the point of heading into the office? It adds very little value to what we have already working remotely. Going into the office adds wear and tear on your vehicle, gas cost, public transportation or parking costs. Also the usually long commutes hurts personal time and time with family we all have back now. Maybe commute times should be added as working hours instead employees personal time and we'll see if we head back into the office. Head up to the office now if you are desperate but don't demand everyone else come with you just for water cooler talk.

I agree 100% but people like MW are desperate to get people back in for control. The office is open for those who want to go back into the office. Nothing is stopping you. Many of your co-workers do NOT want to deal with the commute and come into the office so its selfish wanting to force people in just because you want face to face. So offer the office for those who want to head up there but allow remote for those who don't want to. Just deal with it if you are at the office by yourself. MW doesn't seem to care about morale so it won't happen here.

@mzo+1eFhSPRm I agree with the OP, I'm completely happy working from home. If you need to commute to work to get out of your misery, you have problems, find yourself a Therapist or maybe a Life Coach. Don't expect everyone else to commute to work so you can see everyone face to face and feel better about yourself.

Not going to happen

Remember what this company does. It’s oil and gas. It’s not HR or IT or tech. It’s oil and gas.

OP. I assume you are something other then a petrotech? Is that a true statement. And before you say oh I am a petrotech how about you fprovide a little more info. You don’t have to tell us who you are but something like FE, GOM, surface

OP; you are a master of generalization and assuming all people think the way you do. Haven't you seen the threads here were there are many of us who would prefer the hybrid schedule and go those 3 days to the office (not by ourselves, but with the rest of the workforce)? getting out of the misery and morale booster only for the group that wants to stay home all days; not for the rest. You have spent too much time in isolation and think your thoughts are the truth. Maybe have a talk with someone face to face? listen?

I agree. We left Houston almost two years ago and have no intention to return. I WFH in Maui and it is a dream, for the most part. I’m a morning person so that helps. My boss works from Colorado.
