Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Goodbye hybrid

I’d bet money that the 3/2 is gone as soon as omicron settles down. The 3 wasn’t consistent and I heard through the grapevine about rumblings at the top. We all knew it wasn’t going to last after the FL thing. “Foreseeable future” is probably March, maybe February.

honestly...WFH/Flexible work will weed out those who dont produce or can't work autonomously. we already found the weak links in our team, everyone else can operate on their own and if they want to goto an office to feel better go for it, but not for everyone.

That philosophy is the root cause of Honeywell's mass exodus of talent. Not enough gold comes in when those who actually do the work decide to go elsewhere. Management at the top is clueless about how this works. They'll just start laying of people to keep their overbloated salaries an bonuses. And they'll keep telling Wall Street that is not their fault.

They sent us back to the office while covid, let alone omicron, was high in numbers, I have zero doubts we'll be 5/0 before any of this settles down

@2wts And this is where they are headed with all engineering and design tasks.
Remote, contract workers. Even with the higher pay the net value to the company is greater due to no other costs. No vacation, holiday or sick pay. No insurance cost.
No facility to maintain. If they don't think you are producing up to par, they simply end your contract. No severance. Headed this way with many touch labor tasks as well except they will be mixed in with the onsite population.

I understand the viewpoints on productivity from both sides while some of you tend to focus on your own agenda. The company has to evaluate what’s working and what isn’t and make some tough decisions. It’s not black and white as some of you think it is. Yes - the world is changing and employees now have different expectations but he who has the gold makes the decision and if you don’t like it then good luck elsewhere.

I have visibility to a wide number of honeywell purchase orders. It is a fact that the highest paid individual contributors on an hourly basis are ASIC/fpga engineers working as contractors. These people are by contract 100% remote workers.
There status as remote workers is a function of a skillset which cannot be hired at the pay we offer in the .ocations we operate.
This is a trend for knowlege workers. Average pay for AWS full stack engineers is approaching 300k/yr regardless of location. Good luck honeywell mgrs.
How much are you being paid?

In the end the company will have to balance pay, location and work flexibility against the type of talent they can attract. Given that pay and location are intractable it comes down to flexibility as the only way to land the fish.
It doesn’t matter what Honeywell believes. Culture and expectations have changed.
Honeywell leadership is going to drive a talent famine.

Let’s call a spade a spade…

This hybrid approach is a great initiative but HON is not alone in being concerned about the negative impact of abuse and loss of productivity associated with finished teamwork. The company is not alone in trying to evaluate whether this is a good long term play or not. This is one that the employees likely can control.

The attrition is aweful. To hide the break down in capacity and capability they will probably start the reorganization gears grinding soon. Same old playbook.

I've received 6 goodbye emails this week from engineers with less than 10yrs experience. Zero related to vax status. Most have last days in mid to late january.
Separately -- 3 retirement last day farewells.
Really do not care what the corporate regrettable attrition story is..
I regret all of those people leaving and now I have incredible FOMO.

I have heard the threat, do the 3:2 to the letter or we will go back to 5 days. D considers this concession a gift, and if you don’t appreciate it, it will be taken away.

Waldron told a bunch of us that he is talking to DA about full remote for all of SPS. Says productivity is higher and he saves money on facilities. JW is a good leader. We need more like him.

How can i micro manage you if I can office space you? ALT strives 1950's Aerospace model- Open work space, steel desks and supervisors walking around making sure you are not dawdling

It's all DA....talent is leaving left and right and people are declining jobs because there is no flexibility. Future Shaping is a line of BS since they can't get with the program.
