Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

The value of time

Returning to office means I lose more than two hours of my free time every weekday. Time I could spend with my family. Time I could spend on educational pursuits. Time I could volunteer. Time I could spend on things that fulfill my life and bring me joy. That's something I am NOT willing to give up for a giant corporation that doesn't value me or my time.

I didn't want to work remotely, even having a 1+ hour commute each way. Then Covid hit and we were sent home and I was just glad to still have my job. Then they closed my location and we were permanently remote.
I got used to remote work and still did my job well.

Now they are saying that I have to go into a NJ office on the other side of the country. (I'm on the West Coast.) I'm not going to uproot my family or live apart from them, just for the 'privilege' of being around a bunch of germy people I don't know (most of MY group is in Brookfield) and adding another daily commute to my days.

They will get rid of them. The company is completely unwilling to be flexible on this, and management will absolutely cut off their noses to spite their faces. Anyone in upper management who can be reasoned with has already left the company. They still have an old school mentality that they can bully the employees into compliance, but they're simply not in touch with how to motivate and inspire the modern workforce. They're using the leadership skills they learned in college in the 1970s and are simply out of touch with the changing world.

What are they going to do when they realize that a large number of associates just aren't going to come back into an office, even after Covid has settled (whenever that will be)? I guess a lot of people who don't want to return have either already left the company or are making plans to leave, but there will undoubtedly be plenty who will remain at Fiserv but will refuse to come in. I guess they'll just fire all of us, or somehow force us to quit? Maybe they'll force all who refuse to return to an office to relocate? At some point, someone with a brain in upper management has to come to the realization that the business cannot function without some (or many) of the people who won't come back into an office. I'm probably being too optimistic, but I'm still holding out some modicum of hope that they will come to their senses at some point. One can only hope.

I am not doing it either. In the short term, it won't be safe by 1/31 to expose yourself to shared air in a cube farm. In the long term, I am not doing it for all the reasons you mentioned.
