Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone out there get stranded in California

After taking transfer and getting layed off? Guy I know went to El Segundo because he bought the ATT Director path to prosperity and success hook line and sinker. I told him his $125K in Georgia would have to be at least $300K in California but he didn't listen. Moved his whole family out there, bought a house, and got layed off within 18 months. Good guy but classic case of Company couldnt care less.

If you're a technician being impacted by layoff, apply in the out of region states where they are hiring techs even though there isn't really a need. They just keep telling upper management that they need more techs and it works!

This is an old thing, especially at L-T. Back in the day, management would get phone calls at 4PM on a Friday that their job is in New Jersey, if you still wanted it. No relo. No discussion, No exploritory trips. No notice. No nothin'!

And those that moved to NJ, would shortly be wacked anyway.

T has been toxic for a long time...

A friend was offered move to El Segundo or quit. Easy choice, quit and went to work for a competitor as a contractor, big pay increase and very happy not working for Stank.

I know a handful of people that did this "follow the work" march from ATL to El Segundo. Some prospered others got hosed, big time. So much time, money and energy wasted

I've been here 25 plus years and I have seen this promotion to Director thing play out several times now. The newest Director(s) always are offered up as the first sacrifice when heads are needed. Has absolutely nothing to do with ability. It's a similar phenomena when a L2 non bargained for decides they want to try something new and move to a new team. It's all well and good UNTIL headcount reductions are needed. The "new" guy is usually always offered up first. They haven't built up the relationships yet to where their boss feels any loyalty to them...and it's just easier to let the "new" guy go as opposed to someone you've worked with for years. It's just human nature.

Welcome to Southwestern Bell. Change the name to at&t but this is still SBC and as we were told when the name was changed, SBC doesn't stand for anything. At the time I thought "boy do you have that right".
At the time I worked in DLLS and was offered a promotion to KC. Less than 2 yrs later that entire group was terminated. Then later I tranferred to a lateral job in DLLS Eng working for the Kitch and less than 4 mos later that JA called a Div wide meeting and was explaining that we were about to "rightsize", that's layoffs for you newbies - I transferred out real quick. Then a few years later I was offered a promotion to LA and they tried to tell me my office was in a great part of town and on Wilshire. Problem was the raise was only about $10k and you'd really need about $45k to make up for the same COLA. Turned it down and I read where that office was disbanded.
If their lips are moving they are either lying or scheming.

It's disheartening to read this post as i've seen or heard of this very scenario playout far too many times over my career.

To the commenter, "What is El Segundo?" You are either not an employee or a retiree pre-2015; therefore, you have no business on this site in my opinion.

Just goes to show the mis-management of the company. How anybody can stick up for this company is beyond me.
