Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Why am I no longer trying to achieve good performance?

When someone asks me why I'm demotivated and only work the bare minimum, I tell them this:

Whoever said the company hasn't told managers to give a certain number of "partially achieved" ratings regardless of performance is absolutely lying. I have been told by my manager that exceeds are given when they need to justify a promotion or some such event and they are absolutely forced to give out partially achieveds, even if everyone on the team deserves an achieved. This year the people who were rif'd all got achieveds regardless of performance since they no longer need to justify a future termination.

Great post, @1bdu+1eHqIg8g

@1plx+1eN1eTap You are either from HR, or someone's favorite pet so you think you're safe. You don't cut rock stars unless you just want rocks in "low-cost destinations" where the salaries are dirt.

@1plx+1eN1eTap shut up and go back to hr which should really be called "company resources" because your job is to help the company not any of the humans who work there. you literally just keep track of info that will help get rid of people when the time comes for that. such a sad existence.

@1plx+1eN1eTap Dear HR Lady/Man, your comment is nonsense. In growing companies with a strategic plans, layoffs are not a sad part of life. Employees can grow into other roles, be transferred to other BUs etc. It's a shame you have been brainwashed and have drunk the kool aid. I will pray for you.

Cuts are a sad fact of life. When the time comes, even the best employees can be affected. Even in a team of rock stars, "someone" has to get cut, even if all the reviews are the best they can be. Usually though, in any group there is always room for improvement. This has to be captured and reported upon. It is what it is.

The only purpose of the reviews is to pay people less, and document why to avoid claims later. They're encouraging people to leave. I got the hint last year. My manager had the decency to tell me that I deserved an exceeds but she was directed to give me an achieved rating. I continued to do my job as I was supposed to - didn't slack off, etc. It took about 6 mo to find the right opportunity, which was fine since I had a paycheck and benefits while I was searching.

Yes. I was one of the ones who got laid off but was told I was doing great, great job, etc. I got Achieved consistently.

I do like and respect my former supervisor but I understand that they only have the power to do so much.

Sick, hollowed-out company forcing managers to turn traitor on their own team members. Top-flight leadership.
