Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Where is the logic in that?

All those rumors about layoffs that are around the corner just don't make any sense to me. I don't understand why would a company lay off workers while at the same time being very short staffed. It goes against common sense but I guess at Dell everything is possible. I am so overwhelmed that I often wish I would become the target of those cuts.

The problem is simple. They offer less salary than other companies. They want everyone to return to the office.(Pushing softly but pushing). So no work from home or very little.Other companies are offering this. There tech is stuck in the past as are the internal systems and processes change from one quarter to the next. Targets are a pulled from thin air.Can you blame staff leaving
?

And how many thousand people were laid off in 2020? Now Dell is short staffed? Funny. Good bye and good riddance. Very glad to be gone.

We are finding unless we offer WFH no one will take the job. Folks who have been in office since the pandemic are now supporting over buildings since we can’t find bodies to replace those who have left.

If layoffs are coming than enjoy finding any on site support.

To "I do five jobs because people keep quitting" thats your own fault, do your job well and if things don't get done they will hire more people. If you do it for free why would they not let you do it.

Time to learn business exists to make money and they pay you only because they have too

Since when has Dell been logical? I do five jobs because people keep quitting. We get by by piling work on people who won’t say no or sending as much of it as possible to overseas contractors (who then do such a bad job that it creates more work for the teams they were trying to support).

It's a myth that companies are short staffed. If this was really the case, they would not survive even couple of quarters.

I know in sale's they are pushing for more self service customers.(Premier page).Means there will be less for us to do.They wont keep paying us when the customer can do it themselves.Only a matter of time before cuts happen.

in software, we are losing out to Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc. Young folks want these companies and we really don't have anything appealing to them. So, if you're in a QA Engineer or a Software developer at various levels, you are probably safe going forward. I can't speak to any other disciplines but from a software development perspective, the struggle is real to find new talent.
